Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. We deliver flight data critical to validating system performance and achieving rapid technology deployment. We are seeking a Sr. Engineering Technician with specialized EMI/EMC experience to support the design, integration, testing, and maintenance of hypersonic vehicles' electrical and avionics systems. This role will focus on operating EMI/EMC test equipment and performing various types of EMI testing, including radiated and conducted emissions, as well as immunity tests. You will also create shop definitions, including drawings, wiring diagrams, and work instructions, and serve as a liaison to the shop for installation and modification of aircraft subsystems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Environmental Testing including EMI/EMC Testing:
    • Operate EMI/EMC test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, antennas, LISNs, signal generators).
    • Conduct radiated and conducted emissions and immunity testing per applicable standards (MIL-STD-461, FCC, CISPR, IEC 61000).
    • Execute pre-compliance and full compliance EMI/EMC testing to support product development and certification.
    • Support other environmental test efforts including thermal, vibration, and shock testing as required.
    • Document and analyze test results, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support Avionics and Electrical Systems:
    • Act as the engineering liaison to troubleshoot electrical, avionics, and EMI/EMC ground test issues.
    • Design, manufacture, and operate electrical ground support equipment, including EMI/EMC test setups.
    • Create drawings, wiring diagrams, and work instructions for installation or modification of electrical/avionics subsystems.
  • Technical Communication and Integration:
    • Provide real-time support on the shop floor for documentation and technical troubleshooting.
    • Communicate regularly and comprehensively with your lead and cross-functional teams.
    • Contribute to the integration and validation of complex aerospace systems, with emphasis on EMI/EMC compliance.
  • Travel and Professionalism:
    • Travel as needed (<5%) to support department and test activities.
    • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments.

Requirements

  • Experience with EMI/EMC testing, including operation of EMI/EMC test equipment and interpretation of test results.
  • Knowledge of emission (radiated/conducted) and immunity (radiated/conducted) testing principles and standards.
  • Experience integrating launch vehicle or aircraft electrical power systems.
  • Experience with the creation of shop work instructions, wiring diagrams, and drawings.
  • Direct hands-on experience with aircraft electrical system installation and best practices.
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges and guidance to varied audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to fit business goals.
  • Experience with complex aerospace system development.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Environmental testing experience (thermal, vibration, etc.).
  • Security clearance.
  • Experience with specialized EMI/EMC test techniques (e.g., Time-Domain Scan, Real-Time Scan).

Skills

Required Computer Skills

  • Wiring diagram tools: Siemens Capital Logic/Harness, or equivalent.
  • Lab equipment: Oscilloscopes, multimeters, AC/DC power supplies, signal generators.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD.
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred Computer Skills

  • Siemens Capital/Mentor Graphics.
  • 3D CAD modeling experience – NX, CATIA, or Solidworks.
  • Curtiss-Wright IADS or Labview.
  • Familiarity with configuration management systems – Jira (preferred).

Education & Experience

Strong relevant experience in engineering discipline or 10+ years as technician in relevant discipline, with strong proficiency in CAD and EMI/EMC testing. Base salary range: $48.60–$63.75 per hour.

Position is on-site based in Mojave, CA.

Mojave Air & Spaceport is located just outside of Lancaster/Palmdale and is only 95 miles north of Los Angeles. The area offers both affordability and central access to a variety of California's best attractions and landmarks.
