About the role

We develop designs, layouts, construction drawings, and a bill of material for large projects and complex systems involving the installation/removal/modification of utility infrastructure on Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas and telecommunication facilities/systems.

We interpret and apply engineering standards and memos, assist with technical consultation, plan developments, and recommendations for customer and company systems and processes, evaluate effectiveness of current design processes, participate on teams, and design high voltage transmission and distribution circuits, meeting all engineering standards and criteria.

Position may require working extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties

  • Develops designs, layouts, construction drawings, and a bill of material for large projects and complex systems involving the installation/removal/modification of utility infrastructure on Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas and telecommunication facilities/systems.
  • Interprets and applies engineering standards and memos.
  • Assists with technical consultation, plan developments and recommendations for customer and company systems and processes; verifies and validates studies, blueprints, or designs against accepted engineering principles and practices.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of current design processes.
  • Participates on teams; participates in design of high voltage transmission and distribution circuits, meeting all engineering standards and criteria.

Job Scope

Develops construction drawings and material requirements for complex systems and large projects associated with utility infrastructure installation, removal or modification. Works independently under the direction of a lead engineer. Provides technical assistance to engineering design technicians and associate engineering design technicians. Responds to customer needs for service by evaluating standard versus required facilities in order to develop charges for customers that have financial and operational impact. Responsible for financial requirements associated with projects that support the Asset Investment Committee (AIC) / Project Review Committee (PRC) process. Applies technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field and 3 or more years of technical experience, an associate's degree in a technical field and 5 or more years of technical experience, or 7 or more years of technical experience or relevant education if non-degreed or a non-technical degree.
  • Successful completion of the Technician Occupations Selection Systems (TECH) test (a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH Test requirement).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform routine assignments for a specific discipline installation, or service.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with construction, operations or engineering principles and practices.
  • Proficient Computer Drawing and Computer Assisted Design skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant education/experience: Knowledge and/or skills that may be acquired through job experiences or education programs similar to a formal technical degree program.
  • Relevant experience: Experience in a military role (transmission, distribution, gas, power systems, etc.), project management, journey-level electrician or gas technician, field operations, or other utility related experience, as deemed relevant to the role.
  • Relevant educational experience: Company sponsored training programs (ex. PowerUp Academy) or other educational programs, as deemed relevant to the role.
