Sr Engineer Process

About the role
Reporting to the Senior Manager in the Process Engineering Group and working at the Technical Center in Hershey, PA, the Senior Process Engineer will lead the conceptual and detailed engineering design, execution, and implementation of medium-complexity projects. This role requires a critical thinker with strong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex technical subject matter to audiences at all levels. The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity and leadership to influence cross-functional teams.
Specific Role Focus Area: Conceptual and detailed engineering design, cost estimation, and implementation of capital projects supporting North American manufacturing. This may include managing process-focused capital projects and co-ops or interns.
Responsibilities
- Implementation & Execution of capital projects:
- Develop construction scope and bid packages for small to large capital projects.
- Coordinate and oversee equipment and system installation, check-out, and commissioning.
- Provide process support, troubleshooting, and optimization during startup.
- Lead training of manufacturing personnel (operators, supervisors, QA, and maintenance) on key operating parameters.
- Transition deliverables and documentation to Plant Operations and Maintenance staff.
- Conceptual and detailed engineering design and cost estimation for capital projects:
- Develop manufacturing alternatives that meet business requirements and provide processing solutions.
- Generate and develop PFDs & P&IDs.
- Specify and select equipment, and evaluate equipment suppliers.
- Prepare cost estimates for capital projects and process solutions.
- Capital Project Management:
- Manage budget, schedule, and resources for process-focused capital projects.
- Lead multi-functional teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Make critical decisions under pressure with limited information.

Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in Food Processing, Confectionery, Pharmaceutical, or related industries.
- Process engineering, process design, and project management experience, including troubleshooting and optimization.
- BS in Chemical, Mechanical, Food, Agricultural, or other closely related Engineering field.
Skills & Knowledge
- A strong understanding of:
- Common process unit operations and equipment.
- Sanitary design and construction practices.
- GMP’s and Food Safety.
- Common equipment suppliers.
- Strong understanding of the design, application, and maintenance of:
- Process piping systems.
- Food manufacturing equipment.
- Process automation & instrumentation.
- Demonstrated proficiency in food, pharmaceutical, or related industry standards, construction practices, and codes supporting manufacturing.
- Ability to prioritize solutions and develop schedules based on business objectives.
- Strong troubleshooting and optimization skills.
- Ability to execute projects in a timely manner.
- Strong leadership and decision-making ability.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Comfortable with change and adaptability.
- Proficiency with MS Office programs.
Travel Expectations
This position may require domestic and international travel, depending on project needs.
