About the role
Canon Virginia is evolving into the Regional Technical Headquarters for the Americas and is seeking a Chemical/Materials Engineer to support new material development, lead interdisciplinary teams, and drive product/process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Research and develop new materials, components/assemblies, methods, and/or processes using engineering and scientific principles.
- Lead interdisciplinary engineering/scientific teams in the development, formulation, design, and build of new materials that meet project objectives for quality, cost, and delivery.
- Lead project and product risk analysis efforts and advise on intellectual property protection.
- Assist with creating product/process specifications and requirements.
- Perform experiments and evaluations to down-select concepts and achieve integrated solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues, identify root causes, and develop countermeasures to prevent recurrence.
- Prepare proposals including recommended suppliers, parts pricing, alternative implementation strategies, and timelines/schedules for customer submission.
- Provide guidance and answer technical questions during proposal meetings.
- Review technical reports prepared by less experienced engineers/scientists and provide feedback.
- Lead design reviews and offer suggestions for design/process improvements.
- Oversee projects to ensure adherence to schedule, regulatory requirements, and customer satisfaction.
- Approve and guide process/product changes and risk analysis.
- Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers/scientists regarding process/product/system improvements.
- Act as a subject matter expert in multiple processes and/or products.
- Advise on manufacturing operations instructions (MOIs).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent Engineering degree.
- 8–12 years of experience in research and development, product development, medical, or a related field.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Skills
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to create and present presentations and/or technical papers to upper management, customers, external scientific publications, and/or conferences.
- Ability to lead in a project team environment.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $96,720 – $121,900 (FLSA: Exempt).
