Sr Engineer
Primary Purpose
The Senior Engineer provides technical leadership in the planning, design, and execution of projects involving Exelon's utility infrastructure including electric or gas distribution, transmission, substations, and related systems. This role involves mentoring junior engineers, leading complex engineering studies, and ensuring strategic alignment with safety, reliability, and compliance goals.
This role involves work that can include:
- Leading advanced electric, gas, and/or communications system performance analysis and outage investigations
- Developing and implementing engineering strategies for grid modernization
- Managing budgets, schedules, and resource allocation for major projects
- Facilitating cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement
- Conducting field inspections and resolving high-impact technical challenges
Primary Duties
Leads and performs assignments in specialized areas requiring extensive engineering expertise, requiring maintaining state-of-the-art engineering credential in the specialized technical area (25%)
Leads and performs engineering tasks and projects associated with a critical or analytical engineering project or a small number of complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas, may include field testing, troubleshooting, and peer review (25%)
Evaluates complex technical issues that require highly specialized knowledge in very specific areas and recommends actions or programs for their resolution, which may necessitate the review/evaluation of engineering design documents: (20%)
Evaluates, develops, implements, and leads projects that have significant financial and operational impact, may also develop initial commissioning plans. Plans, writes, and performs tasks for documentation deliverables and projects: (10%)
Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others (10%)
Participates in department planning, through field/site walkdowns, attend meetings/conference calls, provide budget recommendations, and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results (5%)
May participate in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in area of company interest (5%)

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer (2)
- Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems
- Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory
- Detailed knowledge of applicable standards, codes methods, and practices unique to areas of expertise
- 7+ years of professional engineering experience (1)
- Thorough knowledge and experience in unique areas of engineering expertise
- Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex issues
- Minimum of three related career experiences (4) (i.e., changes in technical job responsibilities, which may or may not include a change in department)
- OR Lead Member of a recognized industry committee
- OR Professional Engineer's License (2), advanced technical degree, MBA or Project Management Certification (1)
- Master's degree in Engineering reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year
Preferred Qualifications

- or Graduate level work in Engineering, Business Administration or Project Management Certification
- Possess Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification and or Professional Engineer license (2), (3)
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all management levels. Strong written and oral communication presentation skills, report generation & technical writing skills
- Participation in industry committee or working groups or has published technical documents
- Advanced experience in utility infrastructure, such as system analysis, planning, design coordination, standards development, or project execution
- Experience with electrical substation equipment (e.g., breakers, transformers, protection & control components, station batteries chargers, relay assets) and associated inspection maintenance activities
- Experience supporting enterprise asset management (EAM) inspection applications in an electric utility environment (e.g., Cascade) including configuration, data quality, and user support
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as a subject matter expert (SME), applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills to improve data quality and business processes
- Experience providing training, knowledge transfer, and ongoing support to end users, including responding to questions and guidance related to system functionality, processes, and best practices
- Preferred experience with Cascade and or similar enterprise asset management inspection platforms, plus related reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) able to learn new systems quickly
- Ability to analyze system and process impacts, identify root causes, and recommend practical solutions aligned to operational needs and compliance requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills able to translate complex technical system topics for business users, IT partners, and other non-technical stakeholders
- Experience partnering across business and IT (e.g., Engineering, Operations, Asset Management, vendors) to coordinate requirements, testing, issue resolution, and release readiness
- Demonstrated initiative and ownership by managing work items end-to-end (intake, analysis, documentation, coordination, testing support, and sustainment) for system enhancements and operational improvements
- Proactively identifies and troubleshoots system data issues documents findings, coordinates fixes, and helps implement controls to prevent recurrence
