Responsibilities
- Supports corporate initiatives such as Grid Resiliency, reliability (SAIDI/SAFI) improvement plans.
- Helps develop cost effective plans to improve transmission and substation reliability.
- Supports Capital projects as assigned.
- Aids in the preparation of maintenance plans and capital improvement plans for the Transmission System.
- Provides technical knowledge on electrical system outages or incidents.
- Investigates outage root causes, finds patterns in data, and recommends cost effective solutions to improve customer reliability.
- Affords assistance in investigations of power quality complaints, customer complaints and reliability issues.
- Analyzes data, prepares reports and presentations.
- Provides assistance as required to the Substation and Transmission design groups; e.g. cable ampacity studies, grounding studies, other specialized calculations.
- Provides technical knowledge for system upgrades or modifications to operational systems for transmission and distribution system.
- Provides scientific programming and statistical analysis and handles power system software tool for running simulation work.
- Affords assistance in engagement and management of external consultants to perform specialist tasks.
- Acts as technical lead in cross functional projects.
- Maintains and improves the technical standards and company procedures.
- Performs and handles power system software tool for running simulation work.
- Affords assistance in the implementation of the application of utility Energy Management Systems (EMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and Distribution Management System (DMS) software platforms and operations.
- Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Qualifications
- Engineering degree, 5 years industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE.
- If no PE license then must have 8+ years as a practicing engineer.
- Demonstrated knowledge of: Electric power system design and operations, Protective relaying system, Distribution automation and substation networking.
- Skills Such As Organizational, analytical, writing, verbal communication and documentation.
- Working with a variety of personnel level and business-oriented.
- Writing technical reports.
