About the role
As Sr. Embedded Engineer I, Edge Capture, you'll build the camera systems and on-device software that feed our video intelligence products, working alongside an agile team of AI engineers, data engineers, and DevOps engineers supporting federal and defense customers.
What you’ll do
- Own our edge capture devices end to end, from board bring-up and on-device software through the physical form factor that goes into the field
- Perform bring-up and configuration on embedded Linux platforms, including flashing, kernel and device tree configuration, camera module enablement, and driver troubleshooting
- Build and maintain on-device capture pipelines that record synchronized video and audio, attach sensor telemetry, and hold up under sustained field use
- Design capture behavior that degrades gracefully in denied, disrupted, intermittent, and limited bandwidth environments, including local buffering and store-and-forward delivery
- Integrate and synchronize sensors across capture types, including depth and stereo cameras, inertial measurement units, and positioning receivers, and you'll get their timestamps to line up
- Take development kits and off-the-shelf components and turn them into fieldable units, working through enclosure, mounting, power, and thermal constraints, with rapid prototyping to iterate on the design
- Produce bills of materials, assembly instructions, and test procedures
- Present design tradeoffs and test results to a diverse audience in presentation or report form, including senior leadership and customer stakeholders
What you’ll need to succeed
- Strong experience with embedded Linux on ARM based systems on chip, including NVIDIA Jetson platforms, device tree configuration, and CSI camera enablement
- 5 years of hands-on development in C, C++, and Python on resource constrained devices
- Expert experience with video capture and encoding pipelines, including GStreamer, V4L2, hardware accelerated H.264 and H.265 encoding, and RTSP or WebRTC transport
- Strong experience integrating and synchronizing sensors such as inertial measurement units and GNSS receivers, including calibration and timestamp alignment across streams
- Experience delivering media and telemetry to cloud services, including object storage, resumable and chunked uploads, and retry behavior under unreliable connectivity
- Demonstrated experience integrating development kits and commercial off-the-shelf components into a working device that went to the field, including the packaging, power, and mounting work that required
- Working knowledge of power budgeting, battery systems, and thermal management in compact devices
- Ability to work with limited direction in an innovation environment where requirements evolve and priorities shift
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to document designs and test results for both engineering and customer audiences
