About the role
This position operates under the direct supervision of the SPC Plant Manager and supports both the Louisville (SPC Plant) and Lexington (Funai R&D) locations. The EH&S Engineer will develop, implement, and monitor programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace while maintaining accurate records for regulatory reporting and compiling site metrics for the management team.
Responsibilities
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure the plant complies with all federal, state, and local EH&S regulations.
- Perform management system audits and required safety inspections.
- Maintain all required EH&S records and documentation in an orderly, electronic fashion, striving for annual improvements on CPE audits.
- Provide updates to EH&S operating procedures and programs.
- Maintain a comprehensive compliance calendar of training requirements, regulatory reporting, and other tasks (e.g., testing or sampling).
- Safety Programs & Training
- Support the management of site-specific EH&S policies, programs, and practices.
- Conduct required EH&S training, including New Employee Orientation, monthly safety topics, and contractor safety reviews (across all 3 shifts).
- Manage the site Safety Committee and 5S Committee.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for EH&S compliance questions.
- Ensure external service providers, equipment installers, and maintenance contractors adhere to site safety policies, regulatory guidelines, and risk management protocols.
- Incident Management
- Participate in and lead the investigation of all near-miss, first-aid, and recordable accidents and incidents.
- Determine root causes and assist in creating, implementing, and closing corrective action and mitigation plans.
- Project Initiatives & Vendor Operations
- Develop and implement project initiatives to continuously improve plant safety.
- Organize and handle the consolidation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste shipments.
- Coordinate vendor supplies, safety equipment inventory, and external services.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in EHS, Industrial/Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a safety or EH&S engineering role in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience developing safety programs such as LOTO, machine guarding, and hazard communication programs.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with facility permitting and communications with government agencies and other third parties.
- Ability to effectively communicate with, present to, and collaborate with employees at all levels.
- Experience and knowledge related to chemical safety, process safety management, and air permitting.
- Ability to travel up to 15%.
- High level of attention to detail.
Qualifications
- Professional certification such as PE, CHMM, CIH, ASP, or CSP.
- 5+ years of experience working in a safety or EH&S engineering role in a manufacturing environment.
- 2+ years of experience developing safety programs such as LOTO, machine guarding, and hazard communication programs.
- Experience in lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement systems (ISO 14001, etc).
