About the role

The Sr. Drainage Design Engineer leads the planning, design, and delivery of stormwater and drainage infrastructure projects. This role combines technical leadership, project management, and client engagement, supporting transportation, land development, and public works projects while ensuring compliance with state and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of stormwater and drainage infrastructure projects.
  • Support transportation, land development, and public works projects.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Work with and through others, building and maintaining relationships.
  • Communicate effectively, motivating others while understanding and responding to their needs and concerns.
  • Work independently and manage design tasks.
  • Handle detailed tasks quickly, correctly, and efficiently.
  • Articulate information clearly and follow up carefully and cheerfully to maintain work quality and relationships.
  • Complete work quickly and accurately while closely following established guidelines, structure, and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Washington Professional Engineering license
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with WSDOT and Washington State Department of Ecology design manuals
  • Experience in the design and construction of highway-related drainage elements (10+ years preferred)
  • Experience on Design-Build Projects (preferred)
  • WSDOT Highway Runoff Manual Training Certification (preferred)
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling using Western Washington Hydraulic Model or MGS Flood (preferred)
  • Experience with MicroStation and InRoads (preferred)
  • Experience developing proposals, scopes of work, and budgets (preferred)
  • Client connections and relationships with local and state agencies (preferred)

Qualifications

  • Experience on WSDOT highway drainage design projects within the last 4 years (preferred)
  • Experience with 1D and 2D HEC-RAS Models, SRH2D Models (preferred)
  • Familiarity with local public agencies (preferred)
