Job Description

This position is responsible for creating designs in AutoCAD 2D for the clients Transmission and Distribution electrical Substations and supporting client design criteria, standardization efforts, and FAC-008 compliance efforts. The Drafter will produce engineering drawings using AutoCAD 2D and produce specifications and material requirements for substation projects with an emphasis on safety, quality, scheduling, and costs.

• Create/modify scaled 2D drawings designing the physical aspects of electrical substations, including but not limited to Foundation Layouts, Grounding Layouts, Conduit Layouts, Switchgear Assembly Layouts, Control Buildings, Electrical Bus Design, etc.
• Transmit drawing packages and supporting specifications using the Transmission Engineering job transmittal program.
• Cook up and communicate with engineers and other departments associated with electrical Substation Design.
• Provide support to the OPCO’s Substation Construction, Field Services, Project Management and Substation Maintenance departments.

Job Qualifications

• Experience: Strong understanding of substation equipment is preferred. Experience in Transmission &/or Distribution Substation Operations for an electric power utility company is preferred. Good understanding of utility electric grid operations is preferred. Knowledge of basic electrical power system theory is preferred. Strong understanding of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards, National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, and OSHA safe operating practices is preferred.
• Ability to create Substation Physical Design drawings from a single line diagram is preferred. Ability to create/manipulate 2D Substation Physical Design drawings. AutoCAD training, experience, or certification is preferred.
• Experience working with document management & estimating systems such as Transmission Estimating and Management System (TEAMS), STOMP, MAXIMO, SCST Vault, Autodesk Vault Professional 2023 is preferred.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office products is required.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering -OR- 4-year Engineering Technology degree -OR- 2-year technical degree with at least 5 years of related industry experience -OR- High school diploma with significant related industry experience of at least 8 years.
• Work Schedule: 5-8hr days or the Flex-9 schedule. This position may require some site visits for projects.
