Sr. Dispatcher (8 am - 5 pm)
About the role
The position of Sr. Dispatcher will have primary responsibility to direct and coordinate the pickup and delivery of local/regional shipments and freight.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers while supporting daily trucking and warehouse operations
- Coordinate and dispatch pickups and deliveries between customers, ports, rail terminals, warehouses, and other facilities
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with company security and C-TPAT procedures
- Monitor driver’s Hours of Service compliance and ensure adherence to FMCSA regulations
- Track container availability, terminal appointments, shipment status, and operational issues using internal systems and industry platforms
- Communicate shipment updates, delays, and service issues to customers and internal teams in a timely manner
- Prepare and distribute daily dispatch reports outlining container status and priority actions
- Cookage with warehouse, transportation, customs brokerage, and international teams to support production and shipment planning
- Aid with drayage rate quotes, permit coordination, and dispatch documentation processes
- Maintain proper documentation and update shipments accurately in company systems
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Dispatching experience in a truck/intermodal environment is preferred; Open to training a motivated candidate with related transportation, logistics, or operations experience and strong customer service, computer, and organizational skills.
Working knowledge of Customs and Border Protection, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and State of Alaska regulations as they pertain to dispatching and carrier compliance is preferred, but not required.
Proficient in computer programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, with strong and accurate keyboarding skills.
Experience with chassis provider websites, terminal websites, ocean carrier websites, eModal, and/or UIIA is preferred.
Customer service-focused with the ability to communicate professionally and provide accurate, courteous, and timely responses to questions or concerns.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workloads, follow established processes, and maintain proper documentation.
Ability to work independently with a high level of attention to detail and data entry accuracy.
Team-oriented with the ability to communicate and collaborate with co-workers, Independent Contractors, drivers, customers, and terminal/outside warehouse personnel.
