About the role
The Sr. Director, North America Tax is a finance leader responsible for all direct and indirect tax related activities in North America. Key responsibilities include developing and executing tax strategies, ensuring compliance, managing tax risks, and leading a team.
Responsibilities
- Tax strategy and planning: Develop and execute comprehensive NA tax strategies focusing on lowering the company's effective tax rate and cash taxes, supporting business development, and maximizing credits and incentives.
- Stakeholder management: Communicate complex tax concepts to executive teams, finance departments, and business units; advise senior leadership on tax implications of major decisions.
- Compliance and reporting: Oversee tax compliance activities, manage tax provision process, ensure accurate financial reporting disclosures, and establish internal controls.
- Tax risk management: Identify and mitigate tax-related risks through strategic planning; oversee transfer pricing policies and practices.
- Tax modernization: Formulate vision and roadmap for optimizing tax processes using new technologies.
- Audit management: Oversee NA tax audits and negotiations with government agencies.
- Team leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing tax team; manage department budget; promote a culture of continuous learning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field
- Advanced tax degree in taxation or law (JD/LLM)
- CPA preferred
- 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience in a multinational corporate tax department
- Direct experience in a manufacturing environment with extensive international operations
- Big four public accounting and/or Fortune 500 multinational experience
- Strategic thinking, problem-solving, and translating tax issues into business insights for senior management
- Experience with tax compliance software and ERP systems
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
