Sr Director of Data Engineering
About the Role
The Senior Director of Data Engineering is responsible for defining and executing OncoHealth's enterprise data engineering strategy, architecture, and delivery roadmap. This leader will build and scale a high-performing team of data engineers while creating modern cloud-based data platforms that power analytics, AI, reporting, interoperability, operational excellence, and client-facing insights. The ideal candidate combines deep healthcare and payer domain expertise with strong technical leadership across Azure, AWS, Databricks, Airflow, Python, and modern data platform architectures. This role partners closely with Product, Engineering, Clinical, Operations, Client Success, and Executive Leadership to ensure data is trusted, secure, scalable, and accessible across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the enterprise data engineering vision aligned with business and product strategy.
- Establish standards, patterns, and best practices for data architecture, data pipelines, data quality, governance, and platform operations.
- Provide technical leadership across Azure, AWS, Databricks, Airflow, Python, SQL, and cloud-native data technologies.
- Oversee the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data processing frameworks.
- Build, lead, and mentor a world-class Data Engineering organization.
- Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for healthcare data ecosystems including claims, eligibility, provider, authorization, clinical, and operational data.
- Partner with executive leadership to translate business priorities into scalable technology and data solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science or relevant experience required. MBA or related Master’s preferred.
- 10+ years of data engineering, data platform development, or enterprise data architecture.
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing and scaling high-performing engineering organizations.
- Demonstrated success building cloud-native data platforms in complex healthcare environments.
- Experience leading enterprise modernization initiatives involving analytics, AI, and large-scale data transformation.
- Proven track record partnering with executive stakeholders and influencing strategic business decisions.
- Deep knowledge of healthcare payer operations, prior authorization, claims, eligibility, provider, clinical, and operational data.
- Experience with healthcare interoperability standards including FHIR, APIs, and EDI/X12 transactions.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA, HITRUST, regulatory compliance, and healthcare data governance.
- Exceptional people leadership and coaching capabilities.
- Strong executive communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to lead organizational change and drive enterprise adoption of new technologies.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting AI, machine learning, advanced analytics platforms, Power BI, semantic models, and self-service analytics ecosystems.
- Familiarity with CMS interoperability mandates and prior authorization workflows.
- Experience managing remote and globally distributed engineering teams.
- Understanding in a PE-backed or high-growth healthcare technology company.
Systems/Tools
Expert knowledge of: Azure Data Platform (or comparable cloud data engineering), Databricks (Delta Lake, PySpark), Apache Airflow, Python, SQL, Data Warehousing & Lakehouse Architectures, Data Modeling & Enterprise Data Architecture, DataOps, CI/CD, DevOps Practices.

OncoHealth is committed to remote, hybrid or in-office work options. The majority of the team will be remote or in hybrid work arrangements with offices in Atlanta, GA and Guaynabo, PR. We are open to employees nationwide but work primarily in the Eastern and Central Time Zones.
