About the role

The Senior Director, Field Medical Excellence & Training will lead the advancement of Celldex's Field Medical organization. This role will oversee and elevate key field-based initiatives that inform and support Medical Affairs strategies, while driving a culture of excellence in scientific engagement and execution for both field and home-office medical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Field Medical Training and Capability Lead:
    • Implement, execute, and optimize Field Medical Excellence initiatives that enhance field & home-office medical effectiveness, scientific engagement, and alignment with Medical Affairs strategy.
    • Own the development and continuous evolution of onboarding programs for Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and Field/Home Office Medical personnel, including structured training plans, role readiness, field tools, and compliance alignment.
    • Partner with Home Office Medical Affairs, Medical Affairs leadership, and training stakeholders to shape and deliver scientific training curricula and ongoing capability development programs.
    • Establish and maintain medical affairs competency frameworks, onboarding standards, and role-based learning pathways to support consistent development across therapeutic areas.
    • Support field readiness for product launches, including territory optimization, field deployment strategy, targeting approaches, and resource alignment to ensure effective execution.
    • Ensure delivery of high-quality training content, including MSL core competencies, immunology and therapeutic area expertise, and asset specific education to support ongoing field capability development.
  • Field Medical Excellence, Insights & Execution:
    • Develop and deliver KPIs, dashboards, and performance insights to monitor field engagement, effectiveness, and impact.
    • Partner with Field Medical and Medical Affairs leadership on field force planning, territory alignment, and organizational design considerations.
    • Partner on the selection, implementation, and enhancement of field medical tools and platforms (e.g., CRM, training systems, insight capture) to support high-quality engagement and knowledge sharing.
    • Identify opportunities to strengthen field execution through process refinement, tool optimization, and adoption of best practices in partnership with home office medical affairs operations lead.
    • Enable effective field insight generation by supporting structured approaches to capture, synthesize, and communicate actionable insights into Medical Affairs leadership and other cross functional partners.
    • Drive adoption of new initiatives, tools, and standards through clear communication, stakeholder engagement, and change leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Enablement:
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with Compliance, Legal, HR, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of field-facing processes, tools, and ways of working.
    • Support key field engagement activities including congresses, national meetings, and internal training events.
    • Partners cross-functionally with Clinical Development and Clinical Operations to integrate medical affairs into clinical trial execution, site engagement, investigator interactions, and field insight generation.
    • Coordinate and support ongoing Field Medical cadences, including monthly training sessions, field medical team meetings, and strategic alignment forums.

Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of Field Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Demonstrated experience advancing field excellence initiatives, including onboarding, training, field effectiveness, and performance measurement.
  • Proven ability to design impactful learning programs and capability-building frameworks for field teams.
  • Strong experience developing and utilizing KPIs, dashboards, and analytics to drive field performance and strategic insights.
  • Ability to translate strategy into actionable field execution frameworks, tools, and best practices.
  • Excellent project leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management capabilities within a matrixed organization.
  • Effective communicator with strong presentation and influencing skills, including experience engaging senior leaders.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends, generate insights, and recommend actionable improvements.
  • Experience supporting product launches and field team expansion is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build scalable approaches that support growth and evolving organizational needs.
  • High degree of adaptability, initiative, and comfort operating in a dynamic biotechnology environment.
  • Willingness to travel (~25%) for field engagement, internal meetings, conferences, and co-rides.

Pay

The expected base salary range for this position is $203,157-263,841. We are committed to compensating employees equitably based on several factors including experience, education, licensure/certifications, skill level, location of the position, and availability of similar talent in a competitive market. Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary bonus, long term incentive, 401(K) plan with employer contribution, health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), paid holidays, vacation, and sick days.
