About the Role

Coupang operates one of the largest and most complex technology platforms in the world. We are seeking a Senior Director, Software Supply Chain Platform to build and lead the company-wide platform for secure, reproducible, and automated software delivery. This leader will own build systems, dependency and library management, artifact repositories, software provenance, supply chain security, and automated remediation. The mission is to ensure every Coupang service is built from approved, patched, traceable, and policy-compliant components while removing dependency-management and patching burden from domain engineering teams. We are looking for a visionary, industry-recognized platform leader who has previously conceived, built, and scaled comparable build, dependency, or software supply chain systems in a leading global technology company.

Responsibilities

  • Set a bold, multi-year vision for software supply chain and build platforms, translate that vision into an executable roadmap, and align senior leaders across engineering and security.
  • Define and own the company-wide strategy for secure builds, dependency governance, artifact management, and software supply chain automation.
  • Build a unified platform that manages internal and third-party libraries, coordinated version sets, frameworks, base images, and build artifacts.
  • Establish developer golden paths that make secure and compliant software delivery the default experience.
  • Create strong partnerships across Developer Platform, Security, Infrastructure Automation, and application engineering organizations.
  • Drive adoption of centralized build and dependency services and retire fragmented or unsupported workflows.
  • Own product metrics including adoption, build reliability, upgrade velocity, vulnerability remediation time, developer productivity, and platform cost.

Build, Dependency & Artifact Platform

  • Design and operate large-scale build and dependency-management capabilities inspired by systems such as Amazon Brazil, Bazel, Buck, or equivalent enterprise platforms.
  • Enable hermetic, reproducible, and policy-controlled builds across a large polyglot codebase.
  • Create coordinated version-set and dependency-graph capabilities that prevent uncontrolled library drift and incompatible upgrades.
  • Own enterprise artifact repository strategy, package intake, curation, retention, promotion, and distribution.
  • Provide approved golden libraries, frameworks, build templates, container base images, and runtime packages.
  • Automate library and framework upgrades through safe, testable, and scalable pull-request generation.

Software Supply Chain Security & Automation

  • Establish end-to-end artifact provenance, SBOM generation, signing, attestation, and verification.
  • Integrate vulnerability detection, application risk context, policy enforcement, and remediation into build and release workflows.
  • Prevent unapproved or vulnerable dependencies from entering production through automated policy gates and exception governance.
  • Coordinate automated remediation for third-party packages, container base images, AMIs, frameworks, and runtime dependencies.
  • Build controls for trusted sources, package integrity, malicious package detection, and software for end-of-life management.
  • Partner with App Registry and security systems to prioritize remediation based on service tier, criticality, ownership, and customer risk.

Talent Leadership & Organization

  • Build and lead multiple teams spanning build systems, dependency platforms, artifact security, and automated remediation.
  • Own organizational design, hiring strategy, leadership development, and succession planning.
  • Attract senior engineers with deep build-system, compiler/toolchain, package-management, and software supply chain expertise.
  • Develop senior managers and principal engineers who can independently own major platform capabilities.

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Own architecture for build orchestration, dependency resolution, artifact trust, provenance, and policy enforcement at Coupang scale.
  • Define integration patterns with CI/CD, Deployment Tool, Application Registry, vulnerability management, and runtime platforms.
  • Influence company-wide engineering standards for builds, libraries, frameworks, containers, and release artifacts.
  • Balance security, developer velocity, reliability, and cost while simplifying the technology landscape.

Execution & Impact

  • Deliver measurable reductions in vulnerable dependencies, manual patching effort, build failures, and upgrade lead time.
  • Increase adoption of trusted libraries, signed artifacts, reproducible builds, and automated upgrades.
  • Reduce security and operational burden on application teams through centrally managed capabilities.
  • Establish strong execution mechanisms, milestones, service-level objectives, and customer feedback loops.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience in a best-in-class build, developer infrastructure, or software supply chain organization at a hyper-scaler, major cloud provider, global marketplace, leading fintech, or similarly scaled technology company.
  • Experience building or operating systems comparable to Amazon Brazil, Bazel, Buck, Pants, or large-scale mono-repo tooling.
  • Experience with JFrog Artifactory, container registries, package ecosystems, SLSA, Sigstore, in-toto, or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience with compiler/toolchain engineering, hermetic builds, or reproducible build systems.
  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, developer infrastructure, build systems, or platform engineering.
  • 8+ years leading large-scale engineering organizations, including senior managers and senior individual contributors.
  • Recognized as a strong technology and organizational leader with the ability to shape industry-level platform strategy, attract exceptional talent, and influence executive stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience personally leading the architecture, build-out, launch, and scaled adoption of an enterprise build, dependency-management, package-management, artifact, or software supply chain platform.
  • Experience building or operating enterprise build, dependency-management, package-management, or artifact platforms.
  • Deep understanding of software supply chain security, SBOMs, signing, provenance, attestation, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Experience with large polyglot codebases, CI/CD systems, artifact repositories, and automated upgrade workflows.
  • Proven ability to lead company-wide platform transformations and influence senior engineering and security leadership.
