Sr. Director, Commercial Sourcing Operations
Position Summary
The Sr. Director, Commercial Sourcing Operations leads the strategic sourcing and supplier management function for EVgo's deployment infrastructure and hardware ecosystem, responsible for building and implementing EVgo's sourcing strategy, developing executive-level vendor partnerships, and directing a high-performing organization of sourcing professionals. This role ensures supply continuity, cost competitiveness, and scalable supplier strategies that support EVgo's nationwide charging network expansion. As a senior leader in a publicly traded, high-growth infrastructure company, the Sr. Director aligns procurement strategy with EVgo's capital deployment plans, growth targets, and investor-driven performance expectations.
Responsibilities
Executive Partnership & Public Company Alignment:
- Act as a strategic partner to executive leadership, aligning procurement strategies with EVgo's growth targets, capital deployment plans, and public company performance expectations.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Finance, Field Operations, and Network Deployment leadership to support forecasting, margin improvement, and cost discipline.
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership on supply market dynamics, cost trends, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Support long-range planning including infrastructure scaling, vendor capacity strategy, and capital efficiency initiatives.
Supplier Strategy & Development:
- Define and execute EVgo's infrastructure equipment and services sourcing strategy across a global supply base.
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard global ODM partners with capabilities in power electronics, infrastructure design solutions, and ruggedized deployment equipment.
- Lead complex commercial negotiations including pricing models, capacity commitments, tooling investments, and long-term agreements.
- Optimize the global manufacturing footprint to balance cost, lead time, resiliency, and geopolitical considerations.
Internal Hardware & Engineering Integration:
- Partner with Infrastructure and Hardware Engineering teams on design, development, and manufacturing of EV charging stations, switchboard equipment, and prefabricated charging skids.
- Embed procurement early in product development to influence design-for-cost, design-for-reliability, and supply chain resilience.
- Drive alignment across product management, engineering, and deployment teams to support NPI and rapid field scaling.
- Ensure procurement plays a central role in lifecycle management from prototyping through mass deployment and service support.
Supplier Governance & Risk Management:
- Establish and lead a rigorous supplier governance model including KPIs, scorecards, and quarterly business reviews with key partners.
- Drive continuous improvement in cost, quality, delivery, and innovation performance across the supply base.
- Proactively manage supply risks including component shortages, logistics constraints, and regulatory impacts.
- Lead escalation management and resolution of critical supply or quality issues affecting network uptime and deployment timelines.
- Ensure compliance with ESG commitments, domestic sourcing initiatives, and applicable regulatory standards including Buy America requirements where applicable.
Financial Stewardship & Operational Excellence:
- Own procurement-driven cost targets including BOM cost reduction, total cost of ownership, and capital expenditure efficiency.
- Partner with Finance to support budgeting, forecasting, and margin expansion critical to public market performance.
- Implement scalable procurement systems, analytics, and processes to support rapid infrastructure growth.
- Drive supplier consolidation, strategic sourcing, and long-term cost optimization initiatives.
People Management Responsibilities:
- Leads one or more functional areas of the sourcing organization through subordinate directors and senior managers; accountable for the function's strategic direction, performance, and organizational health.
- Develops and sustains a strong leadership pipeline within the sourcing organization through active coaching, succession planning, and talent investment.
- Defines workforce strategy for the sourcing function including organizational design, role architecture, and headcount planning in partnership with HR and executive leadership.
- Sets the culture and performance standard for the sourcing organization; models EVgo's values and builds an environment of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Serves as a senior advocate for the sourcing team across EVgo's executive leadership and cross-functional partners.
Qualifications
Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience; or equivalent experience.
Deep expertise in OEM, ODM, and contract manufacturing sourcing models.
Demonstrated success partnering with engineering teams on complex hardware development and NPI processes.
Strong understanding of global supply chains including Asia-based manufacturing ecosystems and North American deployment considerations.
Advanced negotiation, supplier management, and contract structuring capabilities.
Proven experience operating within or supporting a publicly traded company, with strong financial and operational discipline.
Up to 30% travel may be required for supplier engagements, executive meetings, and cross-functional planning sessions.
APICS CSCP, ISM CPSM, or equivalent professional certification.
Experience in EV infrastructure, energy systems, automotive, or industrial equipment industries.
Familiarity with Buy America requirements and ESG-linked sourcing standards.
