The Sr. Development Engineer will lead the development of primary systems and sub-systems of commercial HVAC equipment, with primary focus on large tonnage Compressors. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional team members to drive the release of innovative HVAC products and provide technical guidance to junior team members. Location: Staunton, VA or Plymouth, MN – Onsite Your Responsibilities Develop Daikin Compressors Products (primarily Screw Compressors) of significant complexity, supporting program quality, cost, and scheduleDevelop test plans and perform testing of components, sub-systems, and total systems, supporting performance, reliability, and industry certificationWork cross-functionally with groups such as design, test, manufacturing, sales, and supply chain to ensure product design meets business needsDrive the execution of the new product development phase-gate process, demonstrating appropriate design maturity and growth across various milestonesTechnical ownership of sub-system or system designsActs as technical lead for programsDrive innovation around tools and product design Your Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering7+ years of related experienceUnderstanding of mechanical concepts such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, structures, and materialsExperienced in developing and testing Compressors for hydraulic applicationsHands-on experience testing electro-mechanical equipmentAbility to communicate effectively, both verbal and writtenSkilled at problem-solving within engineering and technical conceptsAbility to effectively communicate technical information to an audience in a presentation settingCapabilities with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) toolsKnowledge of cross-functional groups such as Controls, EE, Mfg, Supply Chain, Design, Quality, etc.Understanding of New Product Development processesKnowledge of Lean PrinciplesAbility to estimate work tasks, support project planning activities and translate product requirements into engineering conceptsKnowledge of engineering tools and analysis methods such as DOE, DFMEA, DVP&RProject Management capabilitiesKnowledge of vapor compression cycleCapabilities in modeling/simulation tools such as MATLAB, ANSYS, VapCyc, etc.Knowledge of systems engineering and architectureSkilled at leading technical project teamsCapable of effectively mentor more junior engineersUnderstanding of business concepts and engineering's place in those processes Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in EngineeringExperienced in developing and testing HVACR Compressors Your Benefits Daikin Applied offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements: Multiple medical insurance plan options + dental and vision insurance 401K retirement plan with employer matchPaid time off and company-paid holidaysPaid sick time in accordance with the federal, state and local lawTuition Reimbursement after 6 months of continuous service Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position. The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $109,100 - $188,700 + 15% bonus in Virginia and Minnesota. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade in which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
