Sr. Designer Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls

About the Role

Development and design of Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls systems and other complex engineering drawings for nuclear power plants in a 2-D or 3-D environment. The position requires independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction from a Design Supervisor, Design Lead, or Engineering while concurrently supporting multiple projects.

Ability to perform walk-downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, including climbing ladders, working at heights, carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined or controlled hazardous areas (e.g., high temperatures, high radiation) is required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and design Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls systems and other complex engineering drawings in a 2-D or 3-D environment.
• Check drawings for accuracy, including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards, and completeness using correct project design criteria.
• Participate in field walk-downs to obtain measurements, verify as-built documentation, and develop field sketches in support of plant modifications and design installations.
• Exercise independent judgment with minimal direction from supervisors while supporting multiple projects concurrently.
• Communicate with project engineers and other disciplines to develop drawings and resolve design discrepancies.
• Interface with customers and their construction representatives to integrate designs that satisfy their standards.
• Oversee multi-disciplined design projects.
• Understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes.
• Occasional overtime work is required.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in drafting, design, or engineering technology or 4 years of equivalent experience in system design.
• Minimum of 9 years of experience in engineering drafting with strong familiarity in the design of electrical/instrumentation and controls systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation CAD software packages and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Competency in software applications for email and databases.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge of design practices, codes, and standards applicable to mechanical systems.
• Working knowledge of structural design principles and practices.
• Effective time management skills and a working knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, and estimating design activities.
• Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge or use of Raster Design or 3D modeling experience.
• Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects.
• Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
• Demonstrated ability to direct drafting personnel on drawing assignments.
