About the Role
RS&H is seeking a Senior Designer to join our Infrastructure team in Denver, CO. This role involves collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other designers to establish and enforce CAD standards, support project execution, and mentor staff across multiple disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers to determine CAD requirements and deliverables for aviation, public works, municipal, and site civil projects.
- Create new CAD content to meet enterprise standards, including integrated production standards and details to increase efficiency in construction document production.
- Partner with the Digital Practice team to develop, standardize, and maintain Civil 3D templates, styles, drawing templates, and CAD standards.
- Develop and implement process flows for design development, quality control, and assurance efforts.
- Assess current workflows, strategies, budgets, projects, and staffing; create and execute implementation plans for CAD standards.
- Develop and enforce CAD standards and quality control strategies for projects, facilitating cross-discipline coordination and project inspections.
- Provide technical design support for Civil 3D grading, corridor design, utility modeling, earthwork analysis, and quantity takeoffs.
- Manage and perform QA/QC reviews of plan sets and project deliverables across multiple offices and jurisdictions.
- Provide general CAD technical support to production staff and collaborate with engineering, survey, and project management teams.
- Mentor and train entry-level engineers and implement CAD training programs, including onboarding, continuing education, and new software rollouts.
- Develop and facilitate internal training and workshops on Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and other digital delivery tools.
- Coach junior and mid-level design staff on Civil 3D workflows, company standards, and quality control best practices.
- Manage software products, including new version releases and customization of CAD and related tools.
- Provide hardware and network support related to CAD production, working closely with IT.
- Stay informed on industry best practices and create written evaluations and budgets for future technology adoption.
- Track updates to the Autodesk AEC Collection (Civil 3D, InfraWorks, AutoCAD) and evaluate new tools for broader adoption.
- Support software administration activities, including licensing, template deployment, and troubleshooting for digital delivery tools.
- Use SiteOps or comparable software for conceptual site layouts, feasibility studies, grading analysis, and business development efforts.
- Lead efforts for the integration of engineering software and plugins.
- Work with enterprise Digital Practice and IT to coordinate compatibility between aviation standards and company standards.
- Support the Aviation CAD Standards Committee in determining needs, implementing standards, providing training, and improving processes.
- Develop advanced Autodesk Civil 3D models (surfaces, corridors, grading) for roads, drainage, land development, utilities, and stabilization/restoration projects.
- Prepare earthwork calculations, surface models, and QTOs; build accurate existing-condition surfaces using LiDAR, DEMs, survey data, and breaklines.
- Manage coordinate systems, data transformations, and lifecycle data management for survey and client datasets.
- Participate in client meetings, work independently, and coordinate model/data exchange with internal teams and external consultants.
- Create and manage 3D federated models using Autodesk and Bentley tools (Civil 3D, Navisworks, InfraWorks, Bentley iTwin, MicroStation/OpenRoads); perform clash detection and ensure LOD/COBie compliance.
- Develop, update, and enforce BIM/CAD standards; conduct QA/QC reviews; and provide training and workflow guidance across Autodesk and Bentley platforms.
- Produce visual renderings and sequencing using Autodesk InfraWorks, Navisworks, Twinmotion, or similar tools.
- Perform complex design tasks requiring strong technical judgment and support field verification or survey activities as needed.
- Prepare labor estimates, scopes of work, technical documentation, and proposal materials.
- Deliver client consulting, workflow analysis, and adoption support for Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Bentley iTwin, and related platforms.
- Lead digital integrations and data-flow mapping across Autodesk and Bentley ecosystems.
- Support sales teams with technical discovery and solution development.
- Create training materials, best-practice guides, and serve as a liaison between clients and internal product teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in CAD operations, preferably within the civil engineering industry.
- 15+ years of industry experience (preferred).
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar applications.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices.
- Attention to detail, with a focus on maintaining high-quality CAD standards.
- Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make sound decisions.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and tasks, set priorities, and adapt to changing conditions.
- Familiarity with GIS, BIM, and CAD 3D for integration of planning and buildings work.
Pay
Typical salary range for this position in Colorado is $130,000 – $155,000.
