Sr. Design Engineer (25905)
About the Role
This position is accountable for planning, designing, developing, and implementing major plant engineering projects to create and maintain efficient and safe utilization of plant facilities, ensuring the most economical manufacturing cost. The role leads activities to improve the quality and effectiveness of all manufacturing processes, including substrate attach, die attach, wire bonding, hermetic sealing, and environmental screening. Responsibilities include metrics management, corrective action analysis, process troubleshooting, new process development/qualification, and mentoring process engineering staff. The role also involves operational ownership of all manufacturing processes, support of related products throughout their lifecycle, and ensuring documentation correctness and completeness for all product builds and process operations.
Responsibilities
- Develop strategies and plans, critical path analysis, earned value management, and implement unplanned work scope.
- Analyze current production processes and apply lean/six sigma principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Perform highly complex activities for the development, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing methods.
- Determine, specify, revise, and/or review economic methods, operation sequences, and tooling for fabrications of parts, finishing, assembly, components, subassemblies, or final products.
- Develop assembly guides, procedures, and illustrations.
- Provide technical guidance to product operations, assist supervisors on new techniques, and determine causes of rejected parts and their disposition.
- Participate in cost studies and equipment recommendations.
- Provide guidance to manufacturing engineers and/or tool designers, including work leadership and training to professional employees.
- Investigate and solve problems in manufacturing of products.
- Implement cost reduction projects for methods, processes, and materials on present manufactured products.
- Develop manufacturing routing (operation sequence and production standards) for producing products.
- Develop operational procedures.
- Justify and acquire new equipment, including writing of AFEs.
- Review and implement engineering orders related to process engineering documents.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years’ experience in a similar environment.
- Lean/Six Sigma experience is preferred.
- Understanding of common electronic manufacturing documentation.
- Effective use of common electronic manufacturing equipment such as oscilloscopes, meters, power supplies, PLD programmers, etc.
- Experience using Windows operating systems including Microsoft Office products.
- Experience working for an ISO9000 or AS9100 accredited organization is a plus.
Skills
