Sr. Data Scientist

About the role

The Sr. Data Scientist plays a crucial role in the data analytics team for Corporate Engineering. They work within advanced engineering groups and a cross-functional team to develop and execute the data analytics strategy and apply it to Oshkosh products.

Responsibilities

• Perform data science or analytics assignments, investigations, and visualization tasks.
• Deliver results according to Oshkosh and general industry engineering standards and processes.
• Support (Sr.) data analyst/scientist in the preparation of analytics work, plans, designs, data processing and visualization, and/or reporting.
• Work on projects of high level of complexity under close supervision.
• Collaborate with data science team, data engineering, software, and other internal engineering groups or business support disciplines as well as external component suppliers.
• Conduct independent research on new technologies in cloud-based data analytics and establish requirements (resources, equipment, estimates, test plans, and milestones) and roadmap according to the needs of a project under the guidance of the supervisor.
• Manipulate high-volume, high-dimensionality data in cloud or on-premises from varying sources to highlight patterns, anomalies, relationships and trends with machine learning techniques using modeling tools (such as JMP, SAS, or Anaconda, Dataiku or alike).
• Support or lead the development of intelligent control of on or off-road vehicle or machineries using data analytics techniques.
• Assist or direct feasibility studies and project estimates (manpower, budget development, and timelines, etc.) on proposed research and development projects.
• Support or direct proposal development with regards to acquiring appropriate funding for various advanced data analytics and control systems programs from government agencies.
• Provide insight to service or engineering design teams and support maintenance enhancement and product design improvement.

Requirements

• Accredited Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science or related field with five (5) or more years of related experience.
• Standout Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science or a related field and 8-plus years related experience or Master’s degree in data science and five (5) or more years of related experience or Ph.D. degree in data science with 2 years of related experience.
• Work experiences on statistics, artificial intelligence, data analytics or machine learning.
• Work knowledge of telematics interfaces, data file systems (Hadoop) and data processing techniques (Kafka, Impala, or Map Reduce, etc.), database (SQL or NoSQL), data modeling and data virtualization tools in Python, R or Java/C/C++.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
• Knowledge of data warehousing, data mining, and data visualization tools.
• Experience with cloud-based data analytics platforms.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Skills

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, and Java.
• Experience with data processing and manipulation tools like Hadoop, Spark, and Pandas.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and databases.
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Matplotlib.
• Knowledge of cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with data modeling and predictive analytics.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.

Pay

$91,500.00 - $148,100.00

Schedule

Routine shift hours. Infrequent overtime, weekend, or shift rotation.
