Sr. Data Scientist

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Work with stakeholders throughout the company and industry to identify opportunities for leveraging industry data to drive business solutionsExtending company’s data with third party sources of information when neededMine and analyze data from existing company databases as well as customer databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies, using state-of-the-art methodsAssess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniquesDevelop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data setsDevelop machine and deep learning based algorithms that eliminates or minimizes manual data processing or reportingDevelop various testing frameworks and test model qualityCoordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodationAbility to travel up to 30% of the time to customer offices, railroad track testing sites, and on TrackSTAR® testing vehiclesAbility to walk on rough ground/railroad track, climb vehicle ladders, inclines, and work on vehicle systems in the field or shop ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Ability to handle typical weather extremes when working in the fieldWillingness to wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toed boots) as requiredGeneral office/home environment QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field preferred; STEM graduates considered DOE10+ years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical modelsRailroad Industry experience is a plusIs familiar with the following software/tools:Coding knowledge and experience with multiple languages, primarily PythonKnowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques: GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, etc. Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages: R, Python, SQL, SAS, etc. Experience using web services: Redshift, S3, Spark, etc. Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc. Experience with distributed data/computing tools: Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, MySQL, etc. Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using: Periscope, Business Objects, D3, ggplot, etc. Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on business solutions for our customer baseExperience working with and creating data architecturesAbility to communicate technical verbiage to a non-technical audienceExcellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teamsA drive to learn and master new technologies and techniquesMaintain a valid driver license and abide by our Corporate Fleet PolicyAbility to successfully complete all pre-employment testing required by Holland L.P Disclaimer This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, or working conditions associated with the job.
