About the role

The Level 3 Sr. Data Engineer will execute the transformation and migration of legacy Oracle data assets into Snowflake using dbt. This contract role will build modular transformation models, validate migrated data, and continuously monitor ELT pipelines across development and quality assurance environments. The position will optimize SQL and Snowflake performance while maintaining testing and documentation standards for migrated tables. The engineer will also guide cloud architecture best practices and support UAT approvals through completion.

Location & Work Type

Location: Los Angeles, California. Work Type: Onsite - 5 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rewrite legacy Oracle stored procedures and views into modular dbt models.
  • Implement dbt tests (schema, unique, not_null) and maintain schema.yml documentation for all migrated tables.
  • Refactor and optimize Oracle SQL to leverage Snowflake features, including micro-partitioning and clustering keys, to improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Monitor extraction jobs to verify that data is correctly loaded into staging before dbt processing.
  • Perform row count and checksum comparisons between Oracle source data and Snowflake target data.
  • Run dbt workflows (dbt run, dbt test) across Dev and QA environments to ensure consistency prior to onsite UAT.
  • Develop, schedule, and troubleshoot ETL/ELT mappings, transformations, and pipelines.
  • Coach and guide the team on cloud architecture best practices while managing UAT approvals to completion.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have strong experience with DBT, Snowflake, Oracle, etc.
  • Experience with database infrastructure, backup/recovery, security and performance.
  • ETL/ELT development, mappings, transformations, scheduling and troubleshooting.
  • Strong hands-on Oracle development in large enterprise/data warehouse environment.
  • Technical Degree in Engineering or Equivalent.
  • Data Stack Expertise: Hands-on experience with dbt and cloud data migration projects.
  • Proven Migration Track Record: Real-world, hands-on implementation experience migrating legacy Oracle databases to Snowflake using dbt.
  • Leadership & Best Practices: Ability to coach and guide the team on cloud architecture best practices while managing UAT approvals to completion.

Pay

The base range for this contract position is $65 - $75 / per hour, depending on experience. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
