Sr. Data Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will function as a consultant between our technology unit and other business units to understand their challenges. You’ll ask questions and present ideas that enable them to solve data problems with code. Be prepared to share an example of how you design and develop a solution to a business problem (real or hypothetical for more junior candidates).

Responsibilities

• Independently design and develop solutions to issues across the business, ensuring insights are implemented and tools are provided for business success.
• Translate technical specifications into functional code (junior applicants) or write technical specifications (senior applicants).
• Ask questions and perform quality testing to verify solutions meet business objectives.
• Collaborate with business teams to ensure solutions work as expected, not just as designed.
• Mentor other data engineers and review solutions for quality and completeness.
• Clearly communicate solutions to business owners.
• Participate in Agile processes, including daily standups, sprints, and frequent deployments.

Requirements

• Expertise in querying and processing large datasets (200,000+ rows), ideally using SQL.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Spark.
• Strong understanding of cloud technologies, preferably AWS.
• Experience with data integration from diverse sources into Big Data systems.
• Experience with design, coding, and quality testing for high-quality, functional solutions.
• Willingness to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams.
• Experience working in an Agile team or understanding of Agile concepts.
• Passion for problem-solving using data and aligning solutions with business objectives.
