About the role
Piper Companies is seeking a Sr. Critical Facilities Engineer – Data Centers to join a leading internet infrastructure organization located in Ashburn, VA. The Sr. Facilities Engineer will provide technical leadership for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of mission-critical data center infrastructure, supporting electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and fire/life safety systems.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead for day-to-day operations of mission-critical data center facilities.
- Support the maintenance and optimization of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and fire/life safety infrastructure.
- Develop and oversee Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Method of Procedures (MOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).
- Identify infrastructure risks, Single Points of Failure (SPoF), and End-of-Life (EOL) equipment while driving remediation efforts.
- Lead root cause analysis, incident response, and preventative maintenance initiatives to maximize system reliability.
- Manage capacity planning and support critical facilities projects from planning through implementation.
- Review engineering drawings, coordinate vendors, and ensure work complies with industry standards and best practices.
- Act as the primary technical escalation point for facilities-related issues and communicate project status to leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience supporting mission-critical data center operations in a technical leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of chilled water systems, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH units, UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, and fire/life safety systems.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and critical infrastructure maintenance.
- Familiarity with data center resiliency, capacity planning, commissioning, and preventative maintenance best practices.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings and supporting infrastructure upgrades and modernization projects.
- Industry certifications such as NFPA, DCDC, ATS, ATO, or similar are preferred.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and technical documentation skills.
Compensation
- Salary Range: $110,900 - $150,000 annually depending on experience.
