Sr. Counsel - Legal Business Partner, HIV Prevention
About the role
Gilead Sciences is seeking a Senior Counsel – HIV Prevention Legal Business Partner to join our team of US Legal Business Partners with a focus on HIV Prevention. The role is office-based/hybrid, located in Foster City, California, reporting to the Associate General Counsel, HIV Prevention. The Senior Counsel is responsible for providing legal support in relation to the development and commercialization of Gilead’s HIV Prevention portfolio and other related investigational assets.
The Legal Business Partner team partners closely with colleagues in Compliance, Privacy, Pricing & Access, Competition Law, Regulatory, Intellectual Property, and other groups to ensure the compliant commercialization of our products. This role requires a proactive, problem-solving mindset, a high degree of collaboration with internal clients and colleagues, and the ability to manage various issues, projects, and initiatives simultaneously across geographies and cultures.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal guidance and support for US Commercial and Corporate Affairs strategies and tactics related to promotional and educational activities, including engagements with healthcare providers, patients, patient organizations, and other entities.
- Support applications of healthcare and commercial law and regulatory compliance in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
- Provide legal training to field and home office Gilead personnel and external consultants, including large group public speaking and occasional travel.
- Exercise mature and reliable judgment while delivering sound and clear legal advice in a business setting.
- Collaborate with internal clients (Commercial, Medical, Public Affairs, Government Affairs, Finance, and Regulatory) and build consensus among stakeholders while maintaining a compliant approach.
- Manage multiple legal issues, projects, and initiatives in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate from a nationally recognized law school.
- 6+ years of experience providing legal counsel on the laws and regulations relating to drugs or devices, demonstrating growth and ability to succeed.
- Member in good standing of the State Bar of California or ability to acquire status of Registered In-House Counsel from the California State Bar or gain admission within 90 days.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $226,185.00 - $292,710.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives, paid time off, and a benefits package.
