Requirements Overview Rimkus is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Senior Consultant to provide technical leadership and engineering expertise for projects involving assessments, design, restoration, maintenance, upgrades, and new construction across commercial, residential, and industrial facilities. This role works closely with Principals, Practice Leaders, and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate building systems, develop engineering solutions, manage projects, and support client relationships nationwide. The successful candidate will lead mechanical engineering projects from initial assessment through project completion, perform field investigations, prepare technical reports and designs, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to complex projects involving existing building systems, adaptive reuse, facility improvements, and new construction initiatives. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Lead and manage mechanical engineering projects, including projects involving multiple disciplinesServe as the primary project contact, ensuring deliverables are completed on schedule and within budgetCollaborate with licensed professionals in the design, assessment, renovation, restoration, and construction of commercial, residential, and industrial facilitiesProvide technical expertise for projects involving building systems assessments, upgrades, maintenance programs, restoration efforts, and new constructionEvaluate existing mechanical systems and prepare recommendations for repairs, replacements, improvements, and modernizationCoordinate adaptive reuse projects and modifications to existing facilities to support changing operational needs, equipment installations, and occupancy requirementsPerform engineering calculations, analyses, and system evaluations in support of project objectivesDevelop technical reports, specifications, scopes of work, cost estimates, and construction documentsConduct field assessments and inspections of mechanical systems and equipmentWork in a variety of field environments, including rooftops, equipment rooms, ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and confined spaces as requiredManage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality standards and client expectationsCoordinate with consultants from other practice areas to deliver comprehensive and timely client reportsSupport the preparation of proposals by providing technical input, project approaches, and budget recommendationsPartner with the Business Development team by serving as a subject matter expert during client meetings and presentationsBuild, maintain, and grow relationships with existing clientsCommunicate regularly with clients throughout project execution and proactively address concerns or project-related issuesParticipate in technical presentations and client-facing meetings as neededStay current with industry standards, building codes, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering Required Skills & Abilities Strong technical expertise in mechanical engineering principles, building systems, and related design practicesDemonstrated ability to lead project teams and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary professionalsProficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and/or other Building Information Modeling (BIM) platformsExperience using Hourly Analysis Program (HAP) or similar HVAC system sizing and energy modeling softwareExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong technical writing abilities with experience preparing reports, proposals, scopes of work, and engineering documentationAbility to analyze complex engineering issues, identify solutions, and provide sound professional recommendationsStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and engineering design software applicationsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical publications, engineering reports, building codes, contracts, and legal documentsAbility to effectively communicate technical information to clients, contractors, building owners, and team membersStrong attention to detail and commitment to qualityProfessional demeanor with the ability to foster positive relationships with clients and colleaguesValid driver's license and reliable transportation required Required Required Education, Experience & Certifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institutionMinimum of 8 years of mechanical engineering design experienceExperience evaluating, designing, and assessing building mechanical systemsExperience managing projects and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams Preferred Professional Engineer (PE) licensureExperience with commercial, residential, and industrial facilitiesExperience supporting building assessments, facility upgrades, restoration projects, and adaptive reuse initiatives The Salary Range for this position is $104,000 - $156,000 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications/licensure. PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, AND TRAVEL Physical Demands - Work will be performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e., Client's office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, sit, climb ladders, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be attentive, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary. Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.
