About the role
L3Harris Technologies Power Systems is an agile defense technology innovator, delivering end-to-end solutions for the US Navy Shipbuilding programs. With capabilities in ship control systems, manufacturing and turn-key ship overhauls that meet customers’ mission-critical needs.
Responsibilities
- Reviews and interprets specifications and requirements to determine structural, thermal, electro-mechanical, and safety-critical characteristics/considerations for the mechanical designs.
- Prepares material and labor cost estimates for proposed designs and proposals.
- Works directly with all engineering supporting disciplines from concept through final product design and production.
- Responsible for project budget/schedule adherence for assigned tasks.
- Will be responsible for all aspects of mechanical design and analysis, including electro-mechanical calculations, thermal analysis, structural analysis, electronics packaging, and mechanical concepts for new and updated products.
- Performs electro-mechanical calculations and analyses to support design development, component selection, actuation/motion performance, tolerance evaluation, and product qualification.
- Covers coordination and review of the work of the program design team, provides direction for design and analysis details, and supports the preparation of mechanical drawings.
- Supports manufacturing build and qualification testing requirements, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementing design improvements.
- Reviews and approves project documentation, change requests, etc., and ensures appropriate documentation on projects.
- Processes and manages new/design changes on assigned projects using PLM system.
- Interfaces with customers, vendors, and production to develop product requirements and solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with minimum 6 years of prior related experience; or Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
- Or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Experience with mechanical layout and packaging of such systems.
- 6+ years experience using 3-D CAD software tools in design function, SolidWorks, or equivalent solid modeling software experience required.
- 5+ years of experience in military and/or regulated industry specifications and standards pertaining to design, testing, hardware, material, and processes.
- 5+ years of experience in Commercial/Navy/Military Specifications for environmental qualification testing.
- Experience with electro-mechanical systems design and analysis, including electro-mechanical calculations supporting mechanism design, component sizing, actuation, tolerance analysis, and system integration.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Experience working with Power Switchboard or similar low/medium-voltage/high-power type equipment.
- Experience with bills of material, drawing release, and engineering change processes.
- Experience with PLM systems and configuration-controlled design documentation.
- Experience with structural analysis software ANSYS Workbench [preferred] or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and execute own tasks with minimal guidance.
- Experience with additive manufacturing materials and techniques.
- Experience leading others in design team and executing tasks on-time and on-budget.
- Excellent technical writing skills demonstrated through authorship of technical documentation such as design reports, test procedures, etc.
Pay
The salary range for this role is $102,000 - $189,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
