A Sr Construction Inspector position is available with the City of Fort Worth TPW ROW Management Division. The selected candidate will lead staff, review and understand plans, and oversee construction projects involving franchise/telecom utility construction, including concrete and asphalt paving, ensuring conformance with City policies and specifications. This role involves establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with contractors, the general public, and other employees.

Responsibilities

  • Leads staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, and ensuring proper training
  • Inspects product installation and final restoration in various utility projects for compliance with City standards and policies
  • Enters all utility inspections into Accela and non-inspection activities into the Customer Service Request (CSR) program
  • Coordinates construction inspection activities with other city departments
  • Acts as liaison between contractors and the general public regarding construction projects
  • Promotes, establishes, and maintains effective working relationships
  • Previews plans and traffic control for assigned projects prior to inspection
  • Prepares daily inspection route list
  • Performs routine and final inspections on utility construction projects
  • Reads and interprets plans involving franchise utility construction

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, supplemented by college-level coursework in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of construction inspection experience involving the construction and maintenance of public works systems and structures
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal, management, and communication skills, with the ability to convey concepts clearly both verbally and in writing to the public and internal staff
  • Experience in Accela for reviewing and issuing permits and inspections
  • Knowledge and expertise in Small Cell and 5G construction/installation
  • Experience in construction and/or inspection of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
  • Two or more years of paving restoration experience, including HMAC and concrete
  • Proficiency in the following software: Accela, CRM – Customer Relationship Management System, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

Depending on assignment, this role may require:

  • Physical activities such as touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises

Physical Demands

Medium work – Depending on assignment, this role may require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
