About the role
The Senior Communications Specialist provides professional skills and oversight in communications, journalism, and marketing activities. This role is responsible for the organization and execution of a broad range of communication support to college programs and activities, including writing and editing content for various communications channels, social media marketing and website updates. The Senior Communications Specialist collaborates with university stakeholders to develop and implement communication strategies to enhance an organization's public image and relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Develops communications and marketing programs to increase knowledge and exposure for the College.
- Writes, edits, and formats stories, documents and publications for the College, ensuring that they are in compliance with University standards and requirements. This includes electronic communication, newsletters, Web materials, publications, presentations and reports.
- Leads social media presence for College including writing content, taking photographs, posting videos across multiple college channels and analyzing channel analytics to optimize performance.
- Works with administrators and staff to research and prepare summaries of current initiatives and accomplishments for College programs and departments.
- Develops and maintains internal communications networks within the department and the University community.
- Monitors budgets for communications and marketing projects and programs.
- Develops strategies for directing the division/unit's communications efforts in coordination with leadership.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, Vocational Training, or Apprenticeship in a related field.
- Seven (7) years of related work experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a one year for one year basis.
- This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
Preferred Qualifications

Working Conditions

- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

Physical Demands
- Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
- This position will work primarily on campus.
- Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
- This position is contingent upon a successful background check.
- Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable.
