About the role
The Senior Communications & Media Coordinator uses mass communication in support of institutional priorities by connecting employees, students, and the community to the university mission, vision and values. The position identifies stories about university initiatives, accomplishments and achievements that may warrant internal or external promotion. The position conceptualizes and produces compelling print and multimedia content. Acts as a liaison for institutional priority areas to proactively communicate news that may be of interest to the broader community. The position works with local, regional and national media to obtain news coverage for the university. Writes and edits news briefs, feature articles and profiles for publication on digital news channels, or in university magazines. The position crafts media pitches and news releases and often coordinates news coverage for events. The position produces multimedia content, to include video, photo and graphics. Takes after-hours calls and serves as primary point of contact in the event of an emergency.
Responsibilities
- Identifies stories about university initiatives, accomplishments and achievements that may warrant internal or external promotion.
- Writes and edits news briefs, feature articles and profiles for publication on digital news channels, or in university magazines.
- Works with local, regional and national media to obtain news coverage for the university.
- Produces multimedia content, to include video, photo and graphics.
- Takes after-hours calls and serves as primary point of contact in the event of an emergency.
- Represents the Division & Marketing at high-level meetings and events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with five years of professional communications experience. Prior experience in media, education, or health care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university with three years of relevant experience.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
- Strong written communication skills with knowledge of AP style

- Self-starter with ability to problem-solve
Shift/Salary/Benefits
- Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
- Pay Band: B9
- Salary Range: $48,800/annually - $52,500/annually
- Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
