Sr. Combination Inspector

About the Role

The City of Fort Worth, one of the fastest-growing large cities in the U.S., is seeking a Sr. Combination Inspector to join the Development Services Inspections Division. This role involves performing complex technical inspections of commercial and residential buildings to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances. The inspector will also provide customer service to developers, contractors, and homeowners, resolving issues related to building code compliance.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex inspections on multiple permits for industrial, commercial, and residential construction sites to ensure compliance with City-adopted codes and ordinances.
• Enforces compliance with codes and ordinances, including ICC building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy, existing building, and sign codes, as well as City zoning codes.
• Issues notices for non-compliance, documents actions, and maintains files for possible legal actions.
• Confers with architects, contractors, builders, and the public to explain and interpret code requirements and restrictions.
• Assists Combination Inspectors with minor compliance issues and construction projects.
• Inspects foundation, structural concrete, steel, masonry, wood construction, framing, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical installations.
• Provides customer service through face-to-face interactions, telephone, and email.
• Adheres to assigned work schedules and complies with City policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in building construction or a related field.
• Three (3) years of experience in building inspection and/or construction-related field.
• Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license at the time of hire.
• Ability to obtain ICC certification as an International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) commercial or residential inspector within six months of employment.
• Ability to obtain a valid State of Texas Plumbing Inspector License within one year of employment.
• Ability to obtain three (3) additional ICC certifications and/or State of Texas licenses in three (3) different trades within two and a half years of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Building construction inspection experience.
• ICC certified as a Residential or Commercial Building Inspector.
• ICC certified as a Residential or Commercial Electrical Inspector and/or possession of a State of Texas issued Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
• ICC certified as a Residential or Commercial Mechanical Inspector and/or possession of a State of Texas Air Conditioning Contractors license.
• ICC certified as a Residential or Commercial Plumbing Inspector and/or possession of a State of Texas issued Journeyman or Master Plumbing license.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position requires physical activities such as touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. It is classified as Light Work, involving occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds.

Pay

$28.62 - $35.78/hr. | $59,534 - $74,418 annual compensation

Schedule

Full-Time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM in most instances.
