Sr. Claim Specialist (Michigan Assigned Claim Unit)
About the role
The Auto Club Group is seeking a Senior Claim Specialist to work within the Michigan Assigned Claim Unit. This position requires occasional in-person court appearances and is open to candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of Dearborn, Michigan.
Responsibilities
- Review and contact insureds and other parties involved in assigned claims
- Set expectations for the claim process and initiate documentation in the claim handling system
- Complete coverage analysis on complex claims and identify all possible policyholder benefits
- Create additional sub-claims as needed and conduct thorough damage evaluations
- Evaluate financial value of losses and approve payments for appropriate parties
- Refer claims to other units as necessary, such as Underwriting, Recovery Units, or Claims Special Investigation Unit
- Document and complete claim closure activities in the assigned claims management system
- Utilize strong negotiation skills, especially in MACP and attorney-represented claims
- Manage and resolve litigation files associated with PIP claims
Requirements
- Three years of experience or equivalent training in complex claim settlements, evidence preparation, subrogation, and coverage questions
- Advance knowledge of Michigan's Essential Insurance Act, Fair Trade Practices Act, subrogation procedures, and litigation
- Knowledge of negligence law, no-fault law, medical terminology, and human anatomy
- Ability to handle claims to the line, follow ACG policies and procedures, and manage time and workload effectively
- Effective communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build relationships with insureds/claimants
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with the ability to prioritize tasks and research subrogation laws in various states
Qualifications
- Education: Completion of ACG Claim Representative Training Program or equivalent knowledge/experience, with eligibility to acquire a State Adjuster's license within 90 days of hire
- Experience: Three years of experience or equivalent training in complex claim settlements, evidence preparation, subrogation, and coverage questions
- Knowledge: Advance knowledge of Michigan's Essential Insurance Act, Fair Trade Practices Act, subrogation procedures, and litigation; knowledge of negligence law, no-fault law, medical terminology, and human anatomy
- Skills: Strong negotiation skills, ability to handle claims to the line, follow ACG policies and procedures, manage time and workload effectively, communicate and build relationships with insureds/claimants, solve problems, and research subrogation laws in various states
- Preferred Qualifications: Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance, or a related field; completion of the Insurance Institute of America's General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, Associate in Management, or equivalent CPCU coursework or designation

Pay
A competitive annual salary between $85,321.60 to $95,000, with a geographic pay differential as part of the base salary compensation program.
Schedule
This position is currently able to work remotely from a home office location for day-to-day operations unless occasional travel for meetings, in-person court appearances, collaborative activities, or team building activities is specified by leadership. This is subject to change based on amendments and/or modifications to the ACG Flex Work policy.
