About the role
As a member of our in-house counsel legal department, you will primarily handle the litigation of insurance company and third-party administrator claims for NJ Workers' Compensation. You will represent insured and self-insured employers in litigating workers' compensation claims, prepare legal correspondence, memorandums, briefs, and pleadings, and participate in the negotiation and settlement of litigated claims.
Responsibilities
- Conduct depositions of claimants, insureds, and expert witnesses
- Ensure compliance with Defense Counsel Guidelines
- Develop and maintain solid internal and external client relationships
- Perform legislative and/or regulatory research and analysis
- Advise internal clients on developments in workers' compensation law and procedure
- Deliver client presentations and conduct training seminars
Requirements
- Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school
- Licensed with the NJ Bar Association
- Minimum of 2-3 years of workers' compensation litigation experience representing insured and self-insured employers, with a proven track record of providing quality and cost-effective advocacy
- Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and ability to use internal legal billing software/systems
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, exercise good judgment, and balance multiple competing priorities
- Ability to work effectively in either a self-directed or collaborative environment
- Solid research, analytical, and negotiation skills
- Extensive technical knowledge of NJ workers' compensation law and litigation process, with the ability to apply such knowledge effectively in various claims and business situations
- Strong familiarity with, and ability to apply, litigation management techniques
- Ability to travel to various locations throughout the NJ area
