About the Role
DeLaval, a global supplier of formulated sanitizers and topical disinfectants and detergents, is seeking a Senior Chemist to support our development of cleaners and sanitizers for the dairy farm and food processing industries. The Senior Chemist reports to the Laboratory Manager for Research and Development and leads the development of new and improved products, as well as the development of analytical methods for product specification, manufacturing, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Independently plan, carry out, and report results on research projects.
- Serve as project manager for research projects.
- Lead and conduct formulation work for new product development and improvement of current products.
- Conduct routine physical and chemical tests for assigned projects.
- Perform maintenance for laboratory equipment.
- Scale up new products.
- Work with quality control on transferring new test methods.
- Run stability studies as part of product registration.
- Plan experiments and record data in the laboratory notebook.
- Develop and validate new analytical test methods.
- Actively contribute ideas for the team’s project pipeline.
- Prepare oral and written test reports, public presentations, posters, and patents.
Requirements
- MS in Chemistry with more than 5 years of experience, or a Ph.D. in Chemistry with less than 5 years of experience in a laboratory environment, specifically with product formulation.
- Laboratory experience in formulation development and testing related to antimicrobial, sanitizing, disinfecting, or cleaning products preferred.
- Willingness to learn about project management.
- Working expertise with instrumentation such as HPLC, UV/VIS spectrophotometer, Viscometer, and Autotitrator.
- Understanding of lab safety and the ability to work safely with chemicals.
- Peer-reviewed or patent publication record preferred.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, specifically technical writing.
- Some national and international travel required (10–20%).
