Sr. Category Manager, Worldwide Grocery Stores (WWGS) Private Brands
About the role
The Sr. Category Manager serves as the product owner and internal champion for our Worldwide Grocery Stores (WWGS) Private Brand business, focusing on different food categories. In this role, you will own managing, developing, and improving the structural profitability of our private brand assortment across Amazon and Whole Foods Market (WFM)-branded products. This role spans Food categories with a supply chain serving all Grocery channels including WFM Stores, Amazon Fresh Online, and Amazon.com.
You will work backwards from customer needs to develop and execute a comprehensive sourcing strategy that delivers exceptional products while meeting financial guardrails and targets across all channels. As the owner of supplier relationships in your categories, you will lead negotiations and optimize partnerships over time to meet customer needs. You must be a strong champion for both WFM and Amazon Private Brands' distinct missions and values, embracing WFM's commitment to nourishing people and the planet, and Amazon's mission to make delicious food accessible and affordable for everyone.
Responsibilities
- Product Strategy & Development
- Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for assigned categories, developing a compelling product roadmap from concept through launch.
- Partner with senior team members to develop business cases and annual roadmaps based on market analysis and customer insights.
- Create and maintain detailed product requirement documents, PRFAQs, and six-pagers to articulate product vision and strategy.
- Become the subject matter expert on your categories within the private labeling space, understanding the supplier landscape and optimizing the portfolio.
- Drive new product creation and renovation of existing products to optimize the portfolio and support business objectives.
- Identify opportunities to fill the innovation pipeline through customer insights, market research, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Partner with Product Commercialization, R&D, Legal, and Quality Assurance to bring products to market efficiently while managing risk.
- Establish and track metrics to measure product performance and customer satisfaction.
- Business Ownership & Analytics
- Own the P&L for your product portfolio, ensuring delivery of financial targets and growth objectives.
- Conduct weekly, monthly, and quarterly business reviews with data-driven insights and root cause analysis.
- Understand the critical Ps of Product, Price, Placement, and Promotion to ensure effective product execution.
- Make data-informed decisions by leveraging both qualitative and quantitative customer insights.
- Collaborate with NA Category Merchant stakeholders across multiple teams to achieve financial plans and category objectives.
- Sourcing Excellence
- Become the subject matter expert in your category, including industry knowledge and supplier landscape.
- Develop and nurture strategic supplier partnerships to drive innovation and operational excellence.
- Champion Organics, Fair Trade, Animal Welfare, Sustainability, and Quality Standards to advance WFM's mission.
- Partner with Global Purchasing Teams, Distribution, and Regions to ensure alignment to category strategy.
- Product Experience Optimization
- Drive packaging innovation that enhances customer experience while supporting sustainability goals.
- Influence product placement decisions through data-driven insights and customer decision tree methodology.
- Collaborate with the Pricing team to ensure products meet target price positions while maintaining margin requirements.
- Balance customer value proposition with profit targets to deliver on Conscious Capitalism principles.
- Communicate, represent, and uphold Whole Foods Market core values and leadership principles.
- Demonstrate bias for action, ownership mentality, and customer obsession in all activities.

Worldwide Grocery Stores (WWGS) is a global retail organization dedicated to revolutionizing the grocery shopping experience through enhanced efficiency, quality, and affordability. The WWGS Private Brands (PB) team develops, sources, and manages Whole Foods Market (WFM) and Amazon-branded proprietary food products across all geographic regions, including the Whole Body assortment of non-food and health/wellness products for WFM.
Private Brands supports both North American and International operations by leveraging cross-functional expertise in product development, sourcing, sensory, commercialization, and quality assurance. The team manages brands such as Amazon Saver, Amazon Grocery, byAmazon, Aplenty, Amazon Kitchen, 365 by WFM (including organic products), and Whole Foods Market.
Requirements
- Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or 7+ years of professional or military experience.
- 7+ years of account management, project or program management, or buying experience.
- 5+ years of experience with Excel.
- Experience using data to influence business decisions.
- Experience driving internal cross-team collaboration.
- Experience with business analysis and P&L management.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving direction and alignment with cross-functional teams.
Pay
Base salary range:
- USA, TX, Austin: $121,200.00 - $163,900.00 USD annually
- USA, WA, Seattle: $121,200.00 - $163,900.00 USD annually
Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
