Sr. Business Analyst - People Strategy & Analytics
About the role
This is a critical role on Team Truth, part of People Strategy & Analytics (PS&A) in HR. The position offers great visibility to a wide spectrum of senior leaders and the chance to set intent within a range of analytically-driven HR priorities. The successful candidate will leverage strong analytical skills—including manipulating and exploring historical data and industry benchmarks—to identify root causes behind organizational health shifts, optimize performance targets, and use storytelling to help chart a course forward for Capital One. Responsibilities
- Identify business challenges and opportunities for improvement, using analysis to make strategic or tactical recommendations.
- Perform modeling and analytics to assist new product and pricing strategies for various lending products.
- Support direct-to-consumer marketing efforts for select products and strategic intent for products distributed through the retail channel.
- Build targeted insights to inform the design and development of new customer experiences and breakthrough technology concepts.
- Support step-change improvements in credit performance by connecting drivers of future consumer credit trends to historical behavior, creating risk models, and testing hypotheses using rigorous monitoring and analysis.
- Apply problem frameworks, develop hypotheses, test and analyze solutions, scope operational feasibility, lead implementation efforts, and develop monitoring plans.
- Work closely with colleagues across Capital One, including IT, Sales, Operations, Finance, and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- At least 2 years of professional experience performing analysis.
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining one of the following with an expectation that the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date:
- A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field (Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field).
- A Master's Degree in a quantitative field (Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field) or an MBA with a quantitative concentration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Business or a quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, or Engineering.
- 1+ years of experience in statistical model building.
- 1+ years of experience in market research.
- 1+ years of experience in SQL querying.
- 2+ years of experience in business analysis.
- 1+ years of experience in consulting.

- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus.
Pay
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on the agreed-upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
- McLean, VA: $111,200 - $126,900 for Sr. Business Analyst
- Richmond, VA: $101,100 - $115,400 for Sr. Business Analyst
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. The actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
