Sr Building Controls Technician
About the role
The Building Automation Systems (BMS) Technician will monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain Building Management Systems (BMS) and building automation controls across multiple campus facilities. Responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving automation, HVAC, controls, instrumentation, and low-voltage system issues, modifying controls programming and system parameters to optimize building performance, performing preventive maintenance, system audits, and network troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain Building Management Systems (BMS) and building automation controls across multiple campus facilities.
- Diagnose and resolve automation, HVAC, controls, instrumentation, and low-voltage system issues.
- Modify controls programming and system parameters to optimize building performance and meet customer requirements.
- Perform preventive maintenance, system audits, and network troubleshooting to ensure reliable operation.
- Collaborate with Facilities Management teams to identify root causes, coordinate repairs, and implement energy conservation initiatives.
Requirements
- Must Have: 10+ years of experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) or Building Automation Systems (BAS); experience with Metasys, Siemens, or similar platforms.
- Must Have: Experience supporting commercial, institutional, campus, or facilities maintenance environments.
- Must Have: Strong knowledge of HVAC mechanical systems and building automation controls.
- Must Have: Proven troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and critical thinking skills.
- Must Have: Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics, electrical line diagrams, and controls documentation.
- Strong computer skills and experience troubleshooting IP/network-related issues within BMS environments.
- Experience supporting low-voltage systems such as security, access control, or data/network infrastructure.
- Technical degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with energy optimization, preventive maintenance, and system performance improvements.
- Self-motivated professional with strong communication skills and a willingness to continuously learn and obtain certifications.
Qualifications

No formal education required but a technical degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, or equivalent experience is preferred.
Skills
