Sr. Backend Engineer

About the role

Meta is seeking a Backend Engineer to build and maintain scalable infrastructure, APIs, and services supporting products used at global scale. This role requires strong distributed systems expertise, a data-driven mindset, and the ability to collaborate across engineering organizations.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement highly available backend services and APIs.
• Develop scalable distributed systems to process large volumes of data.
• Build integrations across internal and external systems.
• Improve application reliability, scalability, monitoring, and observability.
• Create solutions for asynchronous job processing and workflow orchestration.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements.
• Develop automated testing and deployment solutions.
• Participate in architecture reviews and operational excellence initiatives.
• Debug complex production issues and implement long-term fixes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of backend software development experience.
• Strong experience with Python, Hack/PHP, Java, Go, or similar languages.
• Experience with GraphQL, REST services, and API development.
• Strong SQL and database optimization skills.
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems.
• Experience with asynchronous processing and workflow execution frameworks.
• Proficiency with testing, debugging, and performance optimization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large-scale infrastructure environments.
• Knowledge of data pipelines and event-driven architectures.
• Experience building systems that support machine learning or analytics workloads.
• Prior experience in high-growth technology environments.
