About the Role

This position interfaces with automation integrators to specify, install, document, and troubleshoot automation equipment for new and existing products and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage automation projects built by outside suppliers, including conceptual design, equipment specification, project management, factory acceptance testing, installation, and commissioning/debug.
  • Provide automation and process control leadership, configuration, and ongoing support for 24/7 production plants.
  • Identify potential process improvement projects and design/develop SCADA & PLC programs to address them.
  • Lead project management and communication to ensure project objectives are clear, responsibilities are understood, and progress is tracked and reported.
  • Develop, evaluate, and enhance manufacturing methods using knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, and production equipment capabilities.
  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow; design equipment and workspace layouts for maximum efficiency.
  • Prepare Process Flow Charts, PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis) documents, Control Plans, and Work Instructions.
  • Collaborate with planning and design staff on product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods and provide DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) feedback.
  • Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and space utilization to facilitate production processes.
  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing workflow, space, and equipment layout using Lean Continuous Improvement methods.
  • Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations and safety requirements.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, networking, and participation in professional societies.

Requirements

  • Broad electrical background with hands-on experience in PLCs/HMI, robots, motion controls, and associated programming software.
  • Familiarity with PC-based controllers/interfaces, including Windows, real-time multi-tasking OS/embedded systems, PLC, HMI, PID servo control, linear motors, robot controllers, stepper motor controllers, data acquisition, vision systems, power distribution, and low/high voltage system wiring to board-level design.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet demanding deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or related field); Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated ability in developing and implementing automation processes and equipment.

Work Environment

  • Primarily an office environment.
  • Ability to sit for long periods and use vision abilities to validate and enter data on a computer.
