About the role

Resonetics is a global leader in advanced engineering, prototyping, product development, and micro manufacturing, driving innovation in the medical device industry. The Senior Automation Engineer works in a team of automation engineers who design and develop automated manufacturing solutions across all Resonetics diverse manufacturing capabilities and locations. The automation team is an internal service provider supporting Continuous Improvement Initiatives, new product development, and Quality Improvement Programs. Automation efforts range from automated part handling of components to complex assemblies, fluid dispensing, cleaning, inspection, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously with minimal direction.
  • Performs mechanical design using SolidWorks, software/controls engineering methods, theories, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems.
  • Develop databases to support data analytics for root cause analysis.
  • Works with sites to design arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure the most efficient and productive layout.
  • Develops automation systems with the goal of decreasing cost by eliminating labor, increasing throughput, and improving product quality by minimizing human error.
  • Delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results.
  • Design and develop manufacturing procedures, tooling, and fixtures that result in sufficient capacity to meet customer demand while promoting product quality, process efficiency, and operator safety.
  • Evaluate process and design alternatives based on Design for Manufacturability principles.
  • Generate and modify manufacturing process documentation and ensure that manufacturing processes and related documentation follow established policies and procedures per Resonetics' Quality Management System.
  • Assist with equipment validations, as well as associated risk management activities (PFMEA/Risk Assessment).
  • Select process improvement techniques to solve technical problems and make sound equipment and process recommendations.
  • Design and prepare engineering reports and communicate results to technical and leadership audiences.
  • Manage multiple parallel projects with varying scopes and deadlines from concept to production release.
  • Create process documentation and training where applicable (Factory Automation Design Process, Automation, Setup, Preventive Maintenance, etc.).
  • Act as a strong cultural agent, actively develop and influence technology capability and roadmap.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service focus and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Mentor colleagues or direct the work of other lower-level professionals.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in automation of manufacturing processes.
  • Design of automation cells.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks (or equivalent) for tooling/fixture design.
  • Well versed in GD&T and print generation.
  • Working knowledge of design configuration management tools and flows.
  • Strong communication skills, comfortable with leading and providing project status updates at both the team and senior leadership levels.
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
  • BS or MS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or other relevant STEM discipline.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Tireless work ethic and understanding of deadline management.
  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to process operational or technical data and translate the output into a business result or opportunity.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills (process capability, equivalence studies, regression, ANOVA, DOE).
  • Trained in formal problem-solving techniques (Cause & effect analysis, 5 Why’s, etc.).
  • Effective interpersonal skills and adeptness in working with culturally diverse employee populations.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and negotiate alignment with stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or other technical field.
  • Certification in Six Sigma Methodology, experienced practitioner of DMAIC principles.
  • Project Management and Leadership skills.
  • Experience with industrial lasers, interventional device design and manufacturing, device assembly.
  • Experience working in a medical device or regulated environment.

Physical Demands

  • Willingness and flexibility to travel as required (primarily domestic and Costa Rica sites).
  • Must be able to obtain a passport and travel internationally as well as domestically.
  • Must be able to bend and lift 50 lbs.
  • Expect to work with power tools and hand tools.

Pay

The compensation for this role is competitive and will be based on experience and qualifications. The anticipated range is $88,000.00 - $124,000.00.
