About the role
The Senior Attorney, Global Litigation will help lead the management of litigation and pre-litigation matters across The Hershey Company. This role will advise business and legal partners on complex disputes and litigation risk involving consumer protection, intellectual property, tort claims, commercial contracts, employment, government investigations, and insured claims. You will provide practical, strategic counsel that supports Hershey’s business objectives, values, and risk tolerance.
Responsibilities
- Help establish and execute global litigation strategies aligned with the Company’s business objectives, values, and risk tolerance.
- Manage litigation and pre-litigation matters from early case assessment through resolution, including investigations, discovery, motions, settlement negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trial.
- Retain and manage outside counsel, experts, consultants, and vendors, including oversight of litigation budgets, fees, costs, and alternative fee arrangements.
- Conduct fact investigations, witness interviews, and early assessments of potential financial exposure and reputational risk.
- Coordinate electronic discovery, document review, witness development, deposition preparation, and litigation holds.
- Draft and edit pleadings, briefs, memoranda, correspondence, and other legal materials.
- Provide practical legal advice on litigation risk, claims, regulations, packaging, and emerging legal developments.
- Manage responses to third-party subpoenas and government or regulatory inquiries and investigations.
- Partner with insurance carriers on coverage matters and insured claims.
- Identify emerging litigation trends and develop strategies, tools, training, and best practices to mitigate risk.
- Prepare materials and presentations for senior leadership and Board-level discussions.
- Supervise and mentor paralegals and provide in-house training on legal issues, litigation trends, and risk mitigation.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in good standing.
- At least 8 years of relevant legal experience, preferably combining law firm and in-house experience with a multinational or publicly traded company.
- Experience defending class actions and complex commercial litigation; successful trial experience is preferred.
- Experience managing extensive electronic discovery, outside counsel, litigation budgets, and cross-functional projects.
- Experience representing food, consumer packaged goods, or similarly regulated companies is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to provide practical, strategic legal advice in complex litigation and an evolving regulatory environment.
- Strong legal writing, contract drafting, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to develop creative solutions to complex legal and business challenges.
- Ability to travel as needed.
