Sr. Associate Scientist, Translational Pharmacology
RayzeBio, a Bristol Myers Squibb company, is a dynamic biotechnology company headquartered in San Diego, CA, focused on improving survival for people with cancer by harnessing the power of targeted radioisotopes. We blend the nimble, pioneering spirit of an emergent biotech with the global expertise and resources of a leading innovator in oncology. Our mission is to develop transformative radiopharmaceutical therapies that offer new hope for patients living with cancer.
About the role
This laboratory-based role presents an exciting opportunity to advance novel radiopharmaceutical therapies from bench to bedside. The successful candidate will conduct in vivo studies using CDX, PDX, and syngeneic mouse models to evaluate tumor growth kinetics, biodistribution, and therapeutic efficacy across various pipeline projects. These studies will include the assessment of radiopharmaceutical agents and other therapeutic modalities. In addition to in vivo work, the candidate will perform in vitro mechanistic experiments to explore translational aspects of treatment response. The role requires the ability and willingness to work with radioactive isotopes.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute in vivo studies using CDX, PDX, and syngeneic mouse models to evaluate tumor growth kinetics, biodistribution, therapeutic efficacy, and durability of response across various treatment modalities, including radiopharmaceutical agents.
- Perform essential in vivo procedures, including cell culture, tumor cell and PDX fragment implantation, surgical modeling of physiological conditions, intravenous dosing, tumor and body weight monitoring, periodic blood collection, and necropsy.
- Independently analyze and interpret experimental data, and present findings at project team meetings, departmental reviews, and company-wide forums.
- Conduct in vitro experiments post-training, including cell viability and cytotoxicity assays, proliferation analysis, mechanistic studies (e.g., apoptosis, DNA damage response), and pathway interrogation using molecular biology techniques.
- Maintain meticulous records of all experimental procedures, data, and observations in accordance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Work with radioactive materials in strict compliance with institutional and federal radiation safety protocols.
- Contribute to experimental design and planning, helping to drive project milestones under tight timelines and dynamic priorities.
- Support translational and in vivo pharmacology efforts under the guidance of project leads, ensuring adherence to animal welfare guidelines and strategic prioritization of studies.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams in translational research, medicinal chemistry, and other scientific disciplines to advance pipeline objectives.
- Assist with laboratory operations, including inventory management, equipment maintenance, and compliance documentation.
- Use AI tools to enhance individual productivity and quality of work.
Requirements
- BS with 4+ years of experience or MS with 2+ years of experience in in vivo pharmacology, translational research, biology, molecular biology, or a related discipline, with hands-on laboratory experience.
- Prior experience working on translational or pharmacology projects in an industrial or academic setting is preferred.
Skills
- Hands-on experience with cell culture, tumor cell/fragment implantation, animal handling, surgery, dosing (all routes, with intravenous route required), and necropsy.
- Familiarity and hands-on experience with cell-based assays and molecular biology techniques, viability assays, ELISA, western blot, etc.
- Excellent written, oral communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with the drug development process and experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work with radioisotopes, strictly adhering to radiation safety protocols.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.
- Position requires working in a laboratory environment; protective clothing, gloves, and safety glasses are required while working with radioactive materials.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
