SR ASSOCIATE COUNSEL
Graduate degree from an accredited law school (LL.B. or J.D.) and a minimum of four years of legal experience required. Active membership in the Georgia Bar Association. Minimum of two years litigation experience required.
About the role
Responsible for providing general legal representation of the Authority and its employees in mediation, arbitration, and litigation in defense of claims (e.g., motor vehicle and train-related claims, slip and fall, trip and fall, police-related claims including false arrest, excessive force, workers’ compensation, employment law litigation, and other civil rights matters). Assists in the negotiation and settlement of claims prior to litigation; pursues cost recovery of claims by the Authority against third parties; and renders legal advice as required.
Responsibilities
- Represents the Authority in mediation, arbitration, hearings, trials, and general litigation, including workers’ compensation claims and/or employment matters in state and federal courts.
- Prepares pleadings and other legal documents necessary to defend the Authority from inception to conclusion of legal actions.
- Represents the Authority before federal and state agencies and in public hearings.
- Assists adjusters with assessing claims to determine validity and proper action.
- Conducts investigations as assigned.
- Researches and drafts legal opinions, briefs, or memoranda as required.
- Provides general advice to and representation of the Authority as assigned.
- Assigns and reviews work of paralegals, interns, and/or externs.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including Transit Ambassador assignments.
Requirements
- Member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia.
Pay
Salary range: $83,000–125,000.
