Role Summary

As a Senior Associate of Province’s Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors (“ABC”) practice, you will serve as the day-to-day project manager for ABC engagements in which Province and its affiliates act as assignee and estate fiduciary. You will lead all aspects of estate administration, from pre-assignment planning and asset preservation through asset disposition, claims reconciliation, tax compliance, creditor distributions, and estate closure, with minimal supervision.

Role And Responsibilities

  • Serve as the day-to-day project lead for multiple ABC engagements and project teams, developing work plans, budgets, and timelines from pre-assignment diligence through final distribution and estate closure.
  • Manage multiple concurrent estates, tracking deadlines, deliverables, and engagement economics while keeping senior leadership and clients informed of status and key decisions.
  • Direct the administration of assigned estates, including asset identification and preservation, cash management, insurance, books and records, and the orderly wind-down of business operations.
  • Oversee the marketing and disposition of estate assets, including going-concern and orderly liquidation sales, coordinating with counsel, brokers, and auctioneers to maximize value for creditors.
  • Oversee the claims process, including the intake, review, and reconciliation of proofs of claim (including tax and wage/priority claims), claim objections, and negotiated resolutions with counsel.
  • Design and execute distributions to estate creditors consistent with statutory priorities and the terms of the assignment, supported by recovery and waterfall analyses.
  • Manage the preparation of estate financial reporting, budget-to-actual analyses, and periodic status reports to creditors and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with tax professionals on estate tax filings, payroll and trust fund obligations, and the resolution of state and federal tax liabilities, including abatement requests, to limit the risk of liens, fines, and penalties.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assignors, creditors, purchasers, and their advisors; respond to creditor inquiries and manage sensitive communications with professionalism and discretion.
  • Support practice development, including pitches, proposals, and referral relationships with attorneys, lenders, venture capital, and other sources of ABC engagements.
  • Manage, train, and develop internal associates and analysts, delegating and reviewing workstreams and providing constructive feedback.
  • Direct external professionals (counsel, tax advisors, brokers, claims and noticing agents, and field personnel), managing scope, budgets, and performance across engagements.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned by management.

Academic/Work QUALIFICATIONS / IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • 5+ years of professional work experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in corporate restructuring, investment banking, special situations, fiduciary services, bankruptcy estate administration, or relevant legal or financial positions.
  • Working knowledge of ABC statutes and procedures and related insolvency frameworks (chapters 7 and 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code, receiverships, and UCC Article 9 dispositions, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated client management experience and sound business judgment in fiduciary or advisory settings.
  • A solid academic background from a reputable undergraduate/graduate program; JD, CPA, or CIRA (Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor) designation is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; proficient with financial/data analytics and claims management databases.
  • Excellent research skills and the ability to analyze complex legal documents, including assignment agreements, sale documents, court motions/orders, loan documents, etc.
  • Deep understanding of financial statements and general corporate finance.
  • Ability to successfully complete modeling and technical skills testing prescribed by the company.
  • Strong ability to work independently and multitask effectively in a highly detailed environment, with a good sense of what is important to accomplish the goal.
  • Ability to condense extensive financial and legal information into logical, thoughtful, and concise solutions, presentations, and well-written reports.
  • Exercises sound, defensible judgment in ambiguous situations, balancing value maximization, cost, risk, and the fiduciary duties owed to the estate and its creditors.
  • Buys into building trusted relationships with assignors, creditors, referral sources, and counsel, anticipating needs and managing expectations throughout the life of an engagement.
  • Eager and responsive, seizing opportunities when presented with them.
  • Demonstrated maturity and the ability to interact effectively with lenders, lawyers, senior executives, and middle managers.
  • The commitment to working effectively in a small, collaborative team environment and actively improving skills, seeking feedback, and adjusting accordingly.
  • The building of team members’ growth by offering constructive feedback, providing guidance, and creating avenues for skill development and career progression.
