About the role
Provides professional, highly technical, planning, design, project management, and construction administrative work on a wide variety of projects relating to municipal facilities (buildings, grounds, cemeteries, etc.). May occasionally be required to provide technical and project management services for horizontal or marine infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and administers budgets
- Analyzes, recommends, plans for and implements improvements
- Affords oversight to in-house projects related to existing buildings and new buildings within the Town
- Functions as in-house Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) architectural resource
- Prepares and stamps plans and specifications for all in-house projects
- Assists the Town Architect in directing and managing the operations of the Architect Section
- All other related work as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture (advanced degrees preferred) plus eight to ten years of progressively responsible relevant experience in the design, construction and supervision of construction of large complex buildings in Massachusetts
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Registered Architect License (required)
- Construction Supervisor License (preferred)
Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of Architecture, and of the materials, methods and techniques of public works
- Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations governing public construction
- Technical knowledge and experience in design, construction and inspection problems commonly encountered in municipal design and construction activities
- Knowledge of Massachusetts procurement laws, contract administration and project management
- Working knowledge of computer applications related to architectural functions
- Proven ability to design, supervise, manage and plan large-scale complex projects
- Ability to interpret and follow engineering and architectural plans
- Ability to develop and effectively manage large construction budgets
- Ability to conduct cost analyses, value engineering and cost management for large-scale construction projects
- Ability to prepare comprehensive reports
- Ability to prepare and administer grants
Skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Proficiency in the use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint, AutoCAD Architecture Software, and engineering design software
Benefits
Position(s) funded 100% through the Barnstable Capital Improvement Project funds. Elimination of this funding will result in elimination of this position and separation of the employee from this position.
