Join the Classification and Policy Platform team as a Sr. Applied Scientist to build technology that automatically monitors the billions of products on the Amazon platform, ensuring compliance with legal regulations. This role is critical to maintaining a catalog that customers trust, leveraging cutting-edge machine learning algorithms on large datasets.

About the role

You will design and implement scalable applications running on Amazon Cloud, creating new technologies to process vast volumes of data, derive patterns, and drive conclusions. This role involves collaboration across backend, client, business development, and data engineering teams to coordinate deep-dives, inform roadmaps, visualize metrics, and build predictive models that enhance customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new features and machine-learned models, applying state-of-the-art deep learning to solve search matching, ranking, filtering, and document understanding problems.
  • Conduct and coordinate process development to streamline model development workflows.
  • Maintain a strong customer focus while working closely with Product Managers to expand product insights using data, design experiments, and prioritize high-impact projects for roadmaps.
  • Provide technical and scientific guidance to team members.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management and colleagues from science, engineering, and business backgrounds.
  • Act as a cultural leader, ensuring teams use data to inform decisions that impact customers.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of applied research experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building machine learning models for business applications.
  • PhD or Master’s degree with 6+ years of applied research experience.
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or a related language.
  • Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning.

Skills

  • Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, TensorFlow, numpy, or scipy.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems like Hadoop or Spark.

Pay

Base salary range: $167,100 - $226,100 USD annually (Seattle, WA). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
