Sr. Applied Scientist, AGI
About the role
The Foundational AI (FAI) team is looking for a passionate, talented, and inventive Applied Scientist with a strong deep learning background to build industry-leading Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) technology with Large Language Models (LLMs).
You will support the development of RL Gyms, assess their usefulness for frontier model advancement, and build techniques to advance the state of the art with LLMs. Your work will directly impact customers through products and services powered by GenAI. You will leverage Amazon’s heterogeneous data sources and large-scale computing resources to accelerate advances in LLMs.
Responsibilities
- Develop RL Gyms and assess their usefulness for advancing frontier models
- Build techniques to advance the state of the art in LLMs
- Support foundational model development in an applied research role
- Impact customers through GenAI-powered products and services
- Utilize Amazon’s large-scale computing resources and heterogeneous data sources
About the team
The FAI team’s mission is to push the envelope in GenAI with LLMs to provide the best-possible experience for customers.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience building machine learning models for business applications
- Experience with large-scale machine learning systems, including profiling, debugging, and understanding system performance and scalability
- PhD or Master’s degree with 6+ years of applied research experience
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building agents or training LLMs for agentic tasks

Pay
Base salary range:
- USA, CA, San Francisco: $192,200 - $260,000 USD annually
- USA, CA, Sunnyvale: $192,200 - $260,000 USD annually
Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
