About the Role

The Associate Analyst, Procurement Operations supports Macy’s procurement organization by developing data-driven insights, reporting tools, and operational analysis across forecasting, inventory management, supplier performance, sourcing support, and procurement process improvement. This role enables more effective planning, improved supply visibility, and stronger decision-making across procurement and supply chain activities.

This role will support forecasting and ordering improvements for store supplies by analyzing usage patterns, inventory trends, supplier performance, service issues, and demand drivers. The Associate Analyst will partner with Procurement, Supply Chain, Store Operations, Finance, and business stakeholders to help ensure stores have the supplies needed to operate efficiently and deliver an excellent customer experience.

Gen AI and advanced analytics are core to this role. The Associate Analyst is expected to rely heavily on AI-enabled tools to accelerate forecasting analysis, identify anomalies, automate reporting, synthesize insights from large datasets, and improve the speed and quality of decision support. The role also requires strong judgment and validation discipline to ensure AI-generated outputs are accurate, explainable, and aligned with operational realities.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and enhance dashboards and reporting to track procurement, forecasting, inventory, and supplier performance metrics.
  • Analyze historical usage, seasonality, store activity, promotional calendars, supply patterns, and business trends to support forecasting and demand planning decisions.
  • Use Gen AI–enabled tools and analytics platforms to accelerate data interpretation, identify anomalies, generate predictive insights, and surface risks across forecasting, inventory, and supplier performance datasets.
  • Monitor inventory levels, shortages, overstock situations, slow-moving inventory, replenishment gaps, and service-level risks across store supplies and related categories.
  • Support supplier performance tracking through KPI/SLA reporting, scorecards, governance materials, and issue trend analysis.
  • Partner with Procurement, Supply Chain, Store Operations, Finance, and business stakeholders to align data inputs, validate findings, and translate insights into practical actions.
  • Support sourcing initiatives through data analysis, RFP preparation, supplier response analysis, savings tracking, and reporting.
  • Investigate root causes of data discrepancies, service issues, forecast variances, or supply disruptions and coordinate with internal partners to support resolution.
  • Automate and improve recurring reporting, dashboards, data workflows, and analytical tools using Excel, Power BI, AI-assisted tools, and other analytics platforms.
  • Document data sources, assumptions, process flows, controls, and reporting logic to strengthen procurement data governance and repeatability.
  • Create and present actionable insights to help business users understand trends, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Analytics, Statistics, Operations, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in analytics, supply chain, procurement, inventory planning, forecasting, retail operations, or a related role.
  • Experience working with Excel, dashboards, reporting tools, large datasets, and AI-enabled analytics or automation tools preferred.
  • Curious and proactive, with a strong interest in using emerging technologies to improve forecasting, reporting, and operational decision-making.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for data accuracy, reporting quality, and follow-through.
  • Comfortable navigating both the technical and business sides of analytics, with the ability to translate complex data concepts into clear, actionable insights.
  • This role involves performing essential job functions such as communication, collaboration, and use of office and computer systems.
  • May require domestic travel 1–2 times per year.

Skills

  • Data & Analytical Capability: Strong proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools, with the ability to analyze large datasets, identify trends, and generate actionable insights to support procurement and supply chain decision-making.
  • Forecasting & Inventory Analysis: Foundational understanding of forecasting, demand planning, and inventory management concepts, with the ability to analyze demand patterns, identify risks, and support planning decisions.
  • AI-Enabled Forecasting & Insight Generation (Critical): Experience leveraging Gen AI–enabled tools and analytics platforms to support forecasting, demand analysis, and inventory planning, including generating predictive insights, identifying anomalies, and accelerating data interpretation.
  • Automation & Reporting Optimization: Ability to use AI-assisted tools to automate reporting, enhance dashboards, and streamline data workflows, improving speed and accuracy of insight generation.
  • Data Validation & Critical Thinking: Strong ability to assess and validate AI-generated outputs, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, explainability, and alignment with business context and operational realities.
  • Supplier & Performance Data Analysis: Experience supporting KPI tracking and supplier performance analysis, using data to highlight trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Problem Solving & Process Improvement: Ability to investigate data discrepancies, identify root causes, and support continuous improvement in procurement processes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong ability to work with Procurement, Supply Chain, Stores, Finance, and business partners to translate data insights into business actions.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate analytical findings and recommendations in a way that supports decision-making across both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with reporting and analytics tools such as Excel, Power BI, SQL or similar, with an interest in leveraging emerging technologies to enhance analytical capabilities.
