About the Role
The Senior Analyst, Payment Strategy supports T-Mobile's Payment Strategy team by leveraging data, analytics, and strategic thinking to optimize the customer payment experience while managing payment risk and cost. This role partners across Product, Finance, Technology, Risk, Fraud, and Operations to analyze customer payment behavior, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop data-driven recommendations that influence payment strategy. Success requires curiosity, strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate complex data into clear business insights for executive decision-making. The ideal candidate enjoys solving ambiguous problems, working with large data sets, and balancing customer experience with sound business outcomes. This role impacts how millions of customers pay T-Mobile each month and how the company manages billions in annual payment volume.
Responsibilities
- Analyze large customer payment datasets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Investigate payment behaviors across payment methods, customer segments, and channels.
- Identify root causes of payment failures, losses, and customer friction.
- Evaluate strategies that improve payment approvals while minimizing payment losses and fraud.
- Build business cases supported by quantitative analysis and scenario modeling.
- Recommend improvements that balance customer experience, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
- Develop queries and leverage Snowflake to extract, analyze, and validate data.
- Build financial models, dashboards, and "what-if" analyses to support strategic decisions.
- Use AI-enabled productivity tools (such as ChatGPT and Claude) to accelerate research, analysis, documentation, and problem solving.
- Partner with Product, Fraud, Risk, Technology, Finance, and Operations teams to evaluate opportunities and implement strategic initiatives.
- Gather business requirements and synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
- Develop concise executive presentations that communicate findings, recommendations, and business impacts.
- Present analysis and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Monitor payment industry trends, emerging technologies, customer behaviors, and competitor capabilities.
- Evaluate new payment solutions and innovations that could improve T-Mobile's payment experience.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of related work experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Acceptable areas of study include Business, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field.
- 2-4 years experience with written communication and presentation skills, including business writing and PowerPoint presentations.
- 2-4 years experience in strategy and problem-solving, framing complex problems, and providing data-driven recommendations.
- 2-4 years experience in data analytics and financial modeling, including analyzing complex data and reporting.
- Skills in analytical thinking, statistical analysis, critical thinking, data analysis, Microsoft PowerPoint, and strategic thinking.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-4 years experience working with SQL and cloud data platforms like Snowflake.
- 2-4 years experience with consumer payments, fraud, payment processing, or financial services.
- Experience in business case development, structured problem solving, executive communication, financial analysis, scenario analysis, and stakeholder management.
- Basic to intermediate SQL skills.
- Experience with AI productivity tools (ChatGPT, Claude).
Legally authorized to work in the United States. Travel is required.
Pay
Base pay range: $73,100 - $131,900. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on work location, qualifications, and experience. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance, set at a percentage of eligible earnings in the prior year (e.g., 10% target). Certain Customer Care positions are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
